Judging Prophecy

Judging Prophecy
This past month I had the privilege of ministering at New Life Christian Center in south Texas. At the request of Pastor Bill Campbell, I held a question and answer session the first night. That session was so powerful and informative for everyone, me included, we set the same forum for the next two nights. After the first night I began praying for direction before the next session. That is when the Lord brought up this question asking, “Who can judge prophecy?” Immediately this verse of Scripture came to me.
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. I Corinthians 14:29-33
The next session I read this verse and asked the question, “Who can judge prophecy?” There were a variety of answers which indicated that most everyone believed they could judge prophecy. After some discussion I read the following verse:
Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. I Corinthians 14:36-40
We know that the Holy Spirit can speak to more than one person at a time, but not everyone can effectively judge prophecy.
