The More Excellent Gift

But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. I Corinthians 12:31

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

The Holy Bible reveals many different gifts that are available to us as Christians. However, there is one gift that stands out from the rest. That gift is love. There are various levels of love. For example, agape is love which is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself. The Apostle John affirms this in 1 John 4:8: “God is love.” God does not merely love; He is love itself. Everything God does flows from His love. Without God you cannot show true love, which leads us to another revelation regarding the Scripture below.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:21-23

In the beginning of my ministry this verse really troubled me and I could not understand what our Lord was saying. After much prayer, He begin to enlighten me on the fact that if I ministered in Love then He was pleased with me, but if I used the gift for personal glorification or for any other reason he let me know it was unacceptable. We must always strive to love everyone like God loves them. It is hard and we fall short many times; however, I have learned the more I seek Him for His gift of Love the more powerful the gift of prophesy operates within me. If you are reading this you need to know that this is the key to obtaining accuracy in your ministry.

Everyone needs to have someone to love and to be loved by as many people as possible. You can only receive what you give out and even then you find yourself being hurt and hurting others. Therefore, continue to pray for a greater measure of God’s love that you may find your way into the heart of God.
