Battlefield of Good and Evil
Excerpt from Sunday Chat Line 09/02/01
Understanding that we are created in three parts (body, soul and spirit) allows us to see how the enemy is able to rob a Christian of God's promises. The soul of man is the battle field for spiritual warfare. There is a constant war over our souls between good (angelic) and evil (demonic) spirits. What we believe does affect the will and destiny that God has for our lives. However, if we have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus), then we are HIS possession. He desires that we receive all of the promises that are offered in the Holy Scriptures. These blessings, from time to time, are offered to us by the Holy Spirit through our spirit. Our spirit makes these blessings available to our soul. If we can agree with what the Spirit is saying, we will receive the promise. Now, here comes the battle! After our soul has been offered the word of the Holy Spirit; immediately, Satan sends a demon to steal the word.
"Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved." Luke 8:11,12
For example, you have just received notice that you have been fired from your job and you have nothing in savings. Very quietly within your spirit the Holy Spirit says, "Do not fear, for I am going to send you to a better place." Then without delay Satan replies, "You loser! No one will ever take you now. You better get even with these jerks". Unfortunately, our emotions kick in and the reality of our present situation causes us to reject the word of faith. The tragedy of agreeing with the demon is that it robs us of our blessing because we believed Satan rather than God. This scenario is no different than Adam's experience in the garden of Eden.
The same thing can happen if you feel a sickness coming on you. You must be quick to recognize and resist what the enemy is trying to put on you. If he gets you to agree with the sickness, you will get what you agree with, thus accepting the sickness from Satan. Now we know that if a person is sick or has lost his job, his spirit is not demon possessed. However, that soul has been possessed in this one sphere by the devil who can cause this person to suffer because they came into agreement with him.
As many ways as the Holy Spirit communicates to us, Satan can maneuver about and try to influence us in the same areas. For example, when we speak of the unction of the Holy Spirit coming upon us, we are saying we have experienced a divine feeling or the touch of God. Satan comes to us with a negative, sick and perverted feelings. Another way to receive a word is one that is spoken through a person appointed to speak a blessing or curse into our lives. It can be someone speaking a word from Satan or it can be a word from the Holy Spirit. For example, while paying the clerk at the register, she might remark, "Say, you look terrible today! Are you sick?" Now if you are already ill, you cannot reverse the curse by lying and saying you are not. On the other hand, if you are not sick, for Pete’s sake do NOT choose to come into agreement with her words. None of these possibilities we have discussed show any demon possession of the spirit.
What if Satan persuaded you to have an affair with a married person? Would this be a form of demon possession? Say you start doing drugs again after being delivered from them when you came to Christ. Would this lead to demon possession? Maybe you have an eating problem and over a period of time Satan has persuaded you to eat your way into obesity. Does this equate to demon possession? All of these things will cost you some pain and torment for your body and soul, but your spirit still belongs to Jesus Christ. You must understand that what you believe is what you will do, and what you do will affect your destiny. You will not go to hell for being over weight; however, you will lose your salvation in other areas of your life. Being born-again and being saved do NOT have the same meanings. If you are born-again you are saved from eternal damnation. Salvation comes in many different arrangements. You can be saved from potential heart disease, diabetes, and other deadly health problems if you practice moderation when eating. The same evil spirit (demon) that drives a person to over eat is the same spirit that drives the body and soul to crave alcohol. Both will rob you of living a prosperous life.
"For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags." Proverbs 23:21
Where do you work out your salvation? Within your soul! Choose with whom you will come into agreement. God desires you to have His good pleasure. The choice is yours. Hear Him and obey Him; this is the only way to please Him.
