Light vs Dark

Excerpt from Sunday Chat Line 07/08/01

The Bible is very clear that we are to stay away from those who call upon spirits other than the Holy Spirit. Yet we still have many Christians who call the psychics for spiritual direction. If we will allow the Bible to be our main source of spiritual direction, we will save ourselves a lot of grief. There is a curse that comes upon those who practice spiritual divination, as well as upon those who support them.

There are many scriptures commanding the children of God not to call upon those who practice star-gazing, reading of omens, conjuring up the dead etc. (ref. Deut. 18:10,11). The Bible states that the promise of God to those who practice such things is that they will be put to death. This could mean spiritual death, but in the Old Testament there were times when kings ordered the death of the false prophets. At other times God would send His prophet to challenge the false prophets to a spiritual duel.

In I Kings, chapter 18, Elijah challenged the false prophets of his day to see whose God would send fire from heaven. There were 450 false prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherab who called upon their gods throughout the day, but nothing happened. When Elijah called upon our God, fire came from heaven and set the altar ablaze. Elijah then commanded that these false prophets be put to death.

This would be unacceptable under the New Covenant, for we are commanded not to come against flesh and blood. Rather, we are commanded to fight our spiritual battles in the heavenly places (spirit realm). This battle is not waged in the natural. It is in the spirit world that we fight the good fight of faith. Praying in tongues alone is not effective spiritual warfare. The time has now come to see the power of light put up against the power of darkness. Much prayer and intercession from the saints is required for those who are willing to challenge the psychics. We need to see that the church will support the prophets who are willing to stand on the front lines of spiritual warfare and demonstrate the power of our God to the world. The only way to prove to the world that the church has a greater power is for the prophets to be in the world's media. Just as Elijah had called everyone to come to the Brook of Kishon to see the power of God's prophet, we too should be calling attention to God's prophets in our time.

Every time false prophets in the Bible began to take control of the world's beliefs, God would raised up His own prophets. We now live in a time in which the psychics have great influence upon the world and its governments. Now more than ever, we need to support the prophets who are willing to go outside of the safe walls of the church and call down fire from heaven. It is time to draw the world's attention to the light and power of our God believing that the Lord will give His word in the hour that we stand before those who judge us.

There is a curse for those who seek psychics, for they are calling upon foreign gods for direction. To seek other gods is an abomination to the Lord. When you seek a psychic for spiritual direction you are seeking the devil for a word.

We find in the Old Testament that when Saul was appointed and anointed to be king by Prophet Samuel, the people were pleased. Samuel, on the other hand, was very grieved. He had prophesied to the people that the Lord wanted to be their King. They did not want a king they could not see. So God told Samuel to go and anoint Saul as king over the nation. Samuel even prophesied that if they chose Saul over the Lord, Saul would tax them heavily and make their children slaves. Still, the people wanted a man to rule over them rather than the Holy Spirit.

Many times Saul did not do what Prophet Samuel had commanded him to do according to the word of the Lord. Saul did it his way over God's way many times. Finally, the day came when Samuel passed away. Saul then desperately needed direction before going to war. He needed to know the plans of the enemy and if He would win the battle. Samuel was now gone and no longer there for him to consult. While Samuel was alive, Saul had commanded all of the psychics of his day to leave the country. There now was no one to peer into the spirit realm to find out what was to come, so Saul disguised himself and left the country to find the medium, En Dor. After En Dor had called up Samuel from the dead, as Saul had paid her to do, Samuel gave a word. Samuel prophesied that the very next day Saul and his sons would be put to death by the Philistines. Saul died because he did not keep the word of God and consulted a medium for spiritual direction. (Ref: I Chronicles 10:13,14)

This scripture gives Biblical evidence that there is a definite curse placed upon those who seek out mediums (psychics). If you have had your palm read, consulted tarot cards, sought an astrologer, or called a psychic, you have received a curse on you and your children. Thankfully, you have a high priest, Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed that our curse may be reversed. If you have received anything from a false prophet, you need to repent and ask Jesus Christ for forgiveness. Make a vow to God never to seek any other source of spiritual guidance other than what God has provided for us. If you are sincere in your heart and vow never to turn from God, He will cleanse you from your curse with the blood of His Son.

“He who receives a prophet in the name of a Prophet shall receive a Prophet's reward.” Matthew 10:41
