Is Faith Needed In Prophecy

Excerpt from Sunday Chat Line 11/18/01

In December of 1996, I was ministering with David Bowman in Oslo, Norway. One night while David was preaching, an older well-dressed man kept coming up to the stage trying to get his attention. Each time the ushers would remove the man. Somehow he continued to dodge the ushers and disrupt the service. After the third or fourth time, David called to the back of the auditorium where I was sitting, "Brother Kent, get this guy saved!" Well, I did not think that would happen. I walked to the front, led the man to the back row, and sat down with him. I discovered the man was drunk. He was a doctor of medicine who did not believe in the healing power of Jesus. As we talked, I found out he was a Jew who had wealthy parents who were respected by the Norwegian government. I listened to him trying to justify his belief that there is no healing power outside of our own minds. His argument was that people become ill because of worry, stress, and negative thinking. He claimed that we also can heal ourselves by having positive thoughts.

Well, I listened to his argument and then asked him if our minds are capable of removing metal rods from our body? The Doctor jerked back, looked at me and asked if that had ever happened. I told him about a friend of mine who had five vertebrae destroyed in an accident. The doctors had placed two metal rods along his spine to protect his spinal cord; however, when he was at a Benny Hinn crusade, Jesus healed him during the worship service. The Doctor said, "How do you know that the rods are no longer in his body?" I asked the Doctor, "If he had metal in his body, would it not show up on his X-rays?" He said, "Of course it would. Have you seen the X-rays?" I informed him that not only had I seen his X-rays, but that everyone who heard his testimony on television saw the X-rays. Furthermore, before my friend was healed he had to use a walker to get around but now he walks perfectly without it. He now works on stage when Benny Hinn is ministering and catches those who fall out under the power of the Holy Spirit.

I now had the Jewish Doctor's attention, and he seemed to be sober. He began to show interest as I mentioned the Holy Spirit. He asked if I would talk to him in the entry hall of the auditorium. Excitedly, he began to tell me about his involvement in the Six-Day war of 1967 between Israel and Egypt. He was commissioned to fly one of the Jets that was furnished to Israel by the USA. It was an old plane and needed lots of work, but there was no time for repairs before the battle. While flying the plane, suddenly the power shut down. His instrument panel went dead and he knew the plane would not stay up for long. As he began to prepare to eject, a strange feeling came over him that was very strong. He knew it was not his mind but that something outside of himself was controlling the plane. To his amazement, the jet continued to soar without any natural power. He landed the plane safely and never told a soul about this experience until now.

His question to me was, "Is this the Holy Spirit that you speak of that did this for me?" I asked him, "How did you arrive at this meeting?" He began telling me about getting drunk because of his depression and then walking through the snow to a familiar bridge. He had stood on this bridge almost sixty years earlier with his father. He remembered the words his father had spoken to him there. His father told him, "Son, one day you will be standing on this bridge and your life will change forever." As he meditated on the words his father had spoken those many years ago, a lady came up to him interrupting his thoughts. She was on her way to the meeting David and I were holding at the school auditorium. He decided to accompany this poor lady who lived on the streets. She had accepted Christ in my first meeting I had held in the city six months prior. This lady was a spiritist before giving her life to Jesus. The wealthy Doctor summoned a cab and they made their way to the meeting. As he told me this story, it became very evident that he would be saved that night. He was now sober and beaming with great expectation. I asked him if he wanted to pray and accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Without hesitation, Tore Roybeck of Oslo, Norway became a Christian on the first day of December 1996. The angels of the Lord obviously had been watching over Tore since the day his father prophesied on the bridge that his life would change forever.

“For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11,12

As we look back at the various ways the Lord's Angels have protected His people, we find one common thread of truth. We must be in His will in order to walk in the protection of His angelic host. To be involved in sin and then expect His angels to protect us is like spitting in the eye of God. We can only have peace and the safety of its author, if we are willing to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Is faith a requirement for prophecy to be manifested? If the prophecy is a word from God, it will happen whether you believe the prophecy or not. The Doctor fought the evidence of the Holy Spirit for sixty year, yet in the end, he accepted the truth and it changed his life.
