Under the Protection of the Lord
Excerpt from Sunday Chat Line 11/11/01
One of the most recognized preachers of today has also experienced standing behind the supernatural defense of the Lord's angelic team. Some years ago, John Hagee of San Antonio, Texas was preaching from his pulpit at Cornerstone Church. Suddenly, he was faced with an angry man who had a gun. Half-way through his sermon a man came walking down the aisle with a gun in his hand. He stopped within a few short feet of Pastor Hagee's face and unloaded his pistol. However, just before the gunman began to shoot Pastor Hagee said, "No weapon that is formed shall prosper against me." Then the shots rang throughout the sanctuary. The man was apprehended and after things settled down Pastor Hagee continued his message. When services were completed, the police began their crime scene investigation. They found bullet holes in the wall directly behind Pastor Hagee's pulpit. The detectives could not explain how the bullets did not first go through Pastor Hagee's body before lodging in the wall behind him. It had to be that the angels supernaturally re-directed the bullets in such a way that they did not strike him. This story also would be hard to believe if I had not heard the actual service that had been recorded on cassette tape which Pastor Hagee played for a group of ministers in Dallas.
"Let them be like chaff before the wind, And let the angel of the Lord chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery, And let the angel of the Lord pursue them." Psalm 35:5,6
Even in the face of death, the Lord's angels will be there to protect us. We have all heard testimonies of how God has supernaturally delivered His children from death and destruction. Recently, I remembered the flaming testimony of a minister friend of mine that lives in Jacksboro, Texas. Each year many parts of Texas are plagued with grass fires during the dry seasons. It was during one of those seasons that my friend, Ray Hambro, was called at work to return home and help fight a grass fire. When he started home, he could see that many of his neighbors had already lost their homes, livestock, barns and equipment. He knew of a family that the firefighters probably had forgotten. He drove quickly to their little place in the valley. Sure enough, when he reached their home it was about to be consumed with flames. Knowing that there was not much time, he got out of his truck and began pleading with his neighbor to come with him and get out of the area. The old timer would not hear of leaving his place. Ray persuaded the old rancher to send his wife out in the truck while stayed with him to fight the fire. The rancher's wife went for help and they began to fight the flaming brush. Soon they were surrounded by fire and the oxygen was being swallowed up by the flames. The fire trucks finally arrived, but flames arching over the road made it impassable. Ray managed to get the old timer out, but was not able to get out himself. He believed the end had come.
With little oxygen left and surrounded by fire he began to cry out to God. Suddenly, a tunnel opened, clearing the way for him to walk down the middle of the road to the awaiting fire trucks. He had no smoke in his lungs, nor was he burned or scorched by the fire. Someone said they saw another person in the flames, but could not find that person after the fire was extinguished. When we are in the midst of trouble, the Lord will never leave or forsake us.
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
Ray Hambro was not alone the day he was delivered from the flames.
"LOOK!" he answered, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego come from the midst of the fire............. and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their Own God!" Daniel 3:25-28
