Raising Up Prophets
Excerpt from Sunday Chat Line 7/01/01
The media (TV and movies) has made the presence of psychics so common and acceptable that it is easy to neglect or ignore what God says about them. Both prophets and psychic are “tuned” into the spiritual world. We, believers of Jesus Christ, assemble under the Holy Spirit. The psychics, on the other hand, assemble under a false spirit, a demonic spirit, for the purpose of divining, interpreting their omens and reading the stars.
I want to share what the Lord is doing in the prophetic and why He is raising up prophets for this time. I cannot do that without first laying the foundation with scriptures. We are going to find out how to judge a prophet, and we will see some dangers in those who are claiming to be prophets but are operating by demonic spirits also known as familiar spirits.
In Deuteronomy 18:10-16, it is clear that psychics, spiritualists and fortunetellers are an abomination to the Lord. Remember when the children of Israel gathered around Mt. Sinai and Moses went up to hear God because the people heard the voice of God and it frightened them. They told Moses, "From now on, you go hear God for us and you come back and you tell us what the Lord is saying. We fear Him, and we do not want to experience that again." It is amazing how many people today still do NOT want to hear the voice of God. In these prophetic scriptures, it is being spoken that there will be another Prophet whom you will hear ... Jesus Christ.
We know Jesus isn't dead. Some people think we are only talking about when Jesus walked the face of the earth. No, He is still alive. He died for our sins but rose on the third day. He is Spirit, and if you are born of the Spirit, you ought to be able to hear Him, for He is bearing witness ... His Spirit with your spirit. A lot of people are straining to hear God through their natural ear, but God speaks to your spirit. One of the reasons for that is because you couldn't handle it in the flesh. The people in the day of Moses couldn't handle it in the flesh. It frightened them. But now we have a more perfect way of being able to hear the Lord ... by Our spirit. We just need to recognize when it is Him speaking to us.
Every time, before I start to minister to the people, and hear the Lord for them, (as a prophet does) I pray and ask the Lord to keep my tongue to the roof of my mouth. and if I say anything outside of His perfect will for these people, or anything that is not of His word ... strike me dead. That is how serious it is, there is a tremendous accountability for being the vessel that God will speak through. (reference: Deuteronomy 18: 17-20)
You must maintain an ear that is in tune with Him. Do you know that we are like antennas walking around? We are picking up every kind of frequency there is. Sometimes that frequency is tuned in to the pits of hell. When you start entertaining the thoughts that come to you that are evil, corrupt, lustful and destructive, you are tuned in to the wrong station. Turn the dial and get in tune with heaven, because the Lord is speaking also.
There is a cartoon of a dog who had a cat by the throat, holding him over a water well. The dog was going to drop the cat, but an angel appeared on one side and said not to do it. The devil came up on the other side and said yes, do it! It's not really a whole lot different for you and me every day. We are walking around having thoughts that are not our thoughts. Thoughts can come to our minds of things that have already been stored, things of the past.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." John 14:26
Remember what the Holy Spirit is given to us for in John 14 ... to tell us of things to come, and bring to our remembrance things that He has taught us. There are things that the Holy Spirit will bring back to mind. How many times have you been sharing with somebody and all of a sudden a scripture will come to mind? Or maybe there comes a situation in your life and you know exactly what that person is going through and you know that God will pull them through just like He did for you. So you begin to give them words of encouragement, words of surety, knowing that you have been through it and God is not going to do for them any differently than He did for you. He will bring them through also, if they will trust and obey. We are getting all these thoughts in our minds, so we need to be cautious of what we entertain. Remember what Jesus said about the law of adultery. He said if you even think upon it, you have committed it. Wow! When I read that, I thought Lord, that is not fair. Then He began to teach me about that phrase “think upon it”. The word “upon” means to meditate, to entertain, to wallow in that thought. If you think on something long enough, you will end up doing it. If you think “upon” doing evil long enough, it will build up and it will cause you to do it.
Consider anger, for example. How many times have you heard the testimony of people on television who have just committed murder? They said they had no control, and they lost it, they didn't know what happened. They meditated “upon” the anger and what they wanted to do to that person, became out of control and they ended up doing it. That's why we are not to meditate “upon” things that are evil and corrupt. Look at the positive side. God speaks, and He says, "You are My sons and My daughters. I shall prosper you, I shall heal you, and you shall be My own. I shall take you from this place of the wilderness experience that some of you are even in right now, and take you into the promised land."
If you meditate on that long enough, guess what will happen? It will force you to cross that river. It will take you into the promised land. It will overtake you, pick you up, and carry you when you have done nothing except meditate upon His word. That is what David meant when he said he meditated ‘upon” the word of God day and night. He was not king when he wrote that! He was being hunted like a mad dog by King Saul.
