Going Through the Fire

Excerpt from Sunday Chat Line 02/03/02

Everyone is created in God’s image, but not everyone lives out their life according to His likeness. Everyone has the opportunity to be renewed into His likeness. However, many have rejected this way of life. When you read the scriptures on renewing your mind, do not think this only means studying your Bible. In order to understand God’s ways, we must be willing to allow Him to purge us and cleanse us of all worldly impurities. The prophet Isaiah of the Old Testament writes,

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD.” Isaiah 55:8

Learning the thoughts and ways of God requires us to die to our will and emotions and to allow God to teach us His ways and thoughts. This process may be referred to as the wilderness experience or the baptism of fire, the Refiner’s fire. No one enjoys going through the process of being shaped and molded into the likeness of God; however, in order to be like Him we must go through the renewing process of the soul, body and spirit.

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole SPIRIT, SOUL, and BODY be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:23

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

Our bodies are not our own. We have been purchased by the blood of Christ. Our body is the temple of God and should be tended to as such. Our earthly body is just a cocoon for the development of our soul and spirit. When our spirit leaves the body it becomes lifeless and profits us nothing. For the time being, we are commanded to take care of this body and use it only for the glory of God.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.” 1 Corinthians 6:19,20

The spirit gives life and is purposed to rule over our soul and body. Our spirit man is in constant contact with the Holy Spirit. By the spirit we can find out all things from the mind of Christ. The human soul is nothing more than an emotional web of circuits that reacts to situations based upon the data stored in its memory. From your spirit man comes revelation for creative purposes which imparts supernatural knowledge. Your spirit man has no limits. You can know all things.

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” 1John 2:20

Too many people lean upon their own understanding when making major decisions. By learning to draw from our spirit, we can always find the correct answer to all of life’s problems.

Jesus said, “For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.” Mark 4:22

Allowing the Spirit to lead us pleases God. The only way we can truly worship God is by praising Him from within our spirit. By knowing our spirit, we can be used by the Holy Spirit ministering in His gifts. True faith in God can only come by the Spirit imparting His word into our spirit. Faith is one of the spiritual gifts, and faith comes by the hearing word (rhema spoken by the Spirit) of God.

“…to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit...” 1 Corinthians 12:9

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:5,6

There truly is not enough taught in the church about the spirit man within us. We need to learn more about God’s ways and thoughts in order to even know how to pray correctly.

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26

Walking by the spirit seems to be ‘way out there’ for most people and can cause one to be labeled a mad man. Show me someone who has recently received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and I will show you someone who is about to go through the furnace of affliction. This fiery process however, is necessary for us to go through before being used of God in ministry.
