Honor your Father and Mother

A man never knows how to be a son until he becomes a father. By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4

Do What You Can for Today

Do what you can today. For yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:33,34

Are You Being Led or Driven

The Lord calls men to shepherd His flock. But nowhere in Scripture does God call His people a herd. They are a flock, and the leaders are called shepherds. There is one distinctive thing about sheep: they cannot be driven. You can drive a heard of cattle....but you cannot drive sheep. They must be led!

Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Acts 20:28,29

A Fool and His Money Shall Soon Part

People who can afford to gamble don't need money, and those who need money can't afford to gamble.

He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not be rich. Proverbs 21:17

Are You Attracted or Attached

There is a vast difference between an attraction and an attachment. Many are attracted to Christ, but few are attached to Him.

The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:17

Having a Good Conscience

The conscience is the sentinel which guards the soul; the granite column which supports the fabric of self and society; the chamber of justice; God's voice in the soul; God's monitor which approves right and condemns wrong.

I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men. Acts 24:15,16

God's Retirement Plan

The immediate return for sowing your funds into God's work may not be great, but the retirement plan is out of this world.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

FINDING PEACE in PRAYER

Anxiety springs from the desire that things should happen as we wish rather than as God wills. Never borrow from the future. If you live in dread of what may happen and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7

PARANOID PROPHECY

Paranoid and negative people say, "I am persecuted" because they believe they are persecuted. They behave in a sulky, disgruntled manner and are suspicious and unfriendly. Then people begin to ignore or even mistreat them, and they say, "See, didn't I tell you I am persecuted?", thus they fulfill their own prophecy.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2,3

The Christian's Character

The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its decisions are immutable. Read it to believe, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's guide, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, the Christian's character.

And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out." John 6:35-37
