How Do You Prophesy?

This interview between Pastor Ras Robinson and Prophet Kent Simpson took place in August of 1994. Its purpose is to familiarize pastors and lay persons with those who operate in the prophetic gifts. It is our desire to see the church allow freedom for the prophetically gifted to come into the congregations to minister to the saints.
The body of Christ has been instructed in the scriptures not to despise prophecy. Of all the gifts we are to pursue prophecy according to First Corinthians 14:1.

There are many questions about whether prophecy is really of God. How can we know it is of God? What do we do when we get a word from a prophetic minister? I hope you will find the answers to these and other questions in the following interview.
PASTOR RAS: I know, Brother Kent that you have an ability to prophesy over people whose face you have never seen. You have ever looked into their eyes, yet you can prophesy even with just a note from a person asking for a prophecy. Tell us about that.

PROPHET KENT: Well, it is not really a situation where I need to see the individual because you must realize that the gift comes from the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that He did not speak on His own authority but spoke only what the Father told Him to say (John 12:49). He told His disciples that it would be better for Him to go to the Father and that He would ask the Father to send us the Holy Spirit (John 14:16).

Now, just as Jesus did not speak on His on authority neither does the Holy Spirit. Whatever He, the Holy Spirit, hears the Father say, that is what He speaks through the prophetic vessel. That is what I began to do: to speak what I heard the Holy Spirit say. In the beginning it was difficult for me to prophesy to someone I had never seen. The way I started prophesying to those I had never seen was when an individual called me wanting to receive a prophetic word. I realized that because of distance and schedules it would be impossible for us to meet face to face. God’s sovereign hand and divine plan would see to it that we could not meet. Suddenly out of my mouth came the words, “Well, just give me your name and address and I will pray and ask God and put on cassette tape what He would say to you.”

Then the Holy Spirit spoke so clearly and said, “Either you hear me or you don’t.”

When I hung up the phone I was hit by fear. I thought to myself, “How am I going to do this?” Then the Holy Spirit spoke so clearly and said, “Either you hear me or you don’t.” It boils down to this, it is not in seeing or touching the person or even having their picture. It is simply having an ear to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to the Church. If you are one of God’s, you are the Church.
