Getting Started with Hearing His Voice

Take Two by Ty

The Sunday TYM.E.S.(Meditations, Encouragement, and Sharpening in Him)

Dear Readers,

Sister Ty Boye

Greetings, and Grace and Peace to you from Our Lord Jesus! As you read this, Lord willing I am still traveling with Sandy Landry in California, taking her on a tour of my home state, visiting family, and doing research for our upcoming book.

As I begin to disclose to you some of the secrets of my heart, and the Lord’s great mercy in helping me to learn to hear His voice, my prayer is that you will meditate on the ways the Lord is speaking to you, that you will thank Him and ask Him to reveal more and more of Himself, in new ways, in ways you can understand. Do ask HIM for confirmations. He loves to confirm His word to us and is infinitely creative in doing so.

May He give us ears to hear and hearts to be eager to trust and obey. May He give us the faith for the grace to “be blessed and let God do the rest” as Kent would say. Thank God for His finished work, as we look to Jesus, “the author and finisher of our faith,” as it says in Hebrews 12:2. And I pray you will be encouraged to tell someone else how the Lord has been good to you, and how He has had compassion on you, and how you have experienced His love and friendship in your ongoing dialog with Him.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Colossians 3:16

Getting Started with Hearing God’s Voice

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”
Romans 8:14

In answer to those who have asked, I plan to share with you the story of how the Holy Spirit began to train me to hear His voice for others. In fact, He’s still in the process-as He is in so many ways with all of us- so the saga continues. But I believe He will use the hearing of this story to impart to you the hunger for more of Him and the desire both to see and to seek His training in your gift. I say “to see” His training because He may already be speaking to you more than you think.

There is a great deal of scriptural sound teaching readily available to us on hearing His voice and even on learning to prophesy. Perhaps you are familiar with Kent Simpson’s website? Anyway, the story you are about to read, as it appears in weekly installments, is not to be considered a how-to manual or a doctrinal thesis. It is merely the record of how He began to reveal more of Himself to me than I had ever known or understood to be possible on an ongoing basis. The Holy Spirit will encounter each of you in His own way, and in the end, we each represent but one of the “books that should be written” John 21:25.

Much of what I would like to tell you about my past is being written up in a book which Sandy Landry and I are creating as a joint project. So you will have to wait for the book in order to read about the exciting individuals who have crossed my path in the Lord. For now, I plan just to focus on the training the Holy Spirit began in me starting in 2008.

It wasn’t a case of just “deciding” one day to start writing prophetically on behalf of others. In fact, most of my life was spent in churches which viewed contemporary prophesying as either heretical, dangerous, or “best left to the experts”. No one had these gifts anymore, and even if occasionally a glimmer of the miraculous broke through, it needed to be tested with a high degree of suspicion. Prophets were guilty until proven innocent. Even those who accepted that prophetic manifestations might occur were quick to ignore to downplay the supernatural, while insisting love was and is more important anyway. Not wanting to argue over the primacy of love, I stifled any curiosity I might have had. Who needed prophecy when the church had the Holy Scripture? I was thankful for Wycliffe and Tyndale and Luther-as we all should be, of course. But day of the great freedom fighters was past, and now we the laity had the Word at last. If true modern-day prophets did exist, it seemed the historic church had been getting by without them just fine. Or so I thought.

“Everyone knew” that, at least for the average Christian, visions and prophecy all ended when the Apostle John went on to glory in the first century. Now, if someone pressed me, I probably would have said that as an open-minded, educated person, I had to admit that MAYBE it could happen again, but visions and prophecy would only for an extremely important servant of God who had fasted for weeks and was commissioned for world evangelism. Two of my most beloved pastors had told stories about prophetic words spoken over them; I was awed over the accuracy of their confirmations. These were both men with huge ministries. At one point I had actually befriended and elderly lady who called herself a prophetess. I was not sure I could believe her stories, and 30 years had passed since our talks, so that I only dimly remembered her stories. But surely prophecy was not for the rank and file, such as myself. Our job was to stick with the Written Word.

I was a working woman who didn’t have a lot of time to read and keep up on the 21st Century Church. Like a LOT of folks in local churches across America, I thought I had enough to do, just keeping up with my family and my job and the overseas ministries I read about and supported financially. Bill Haman, Bill Johnson, John Paul Jackson, John Wimber, Bob Jones, Patricia King? Who were these folks? Never heard of them. The prophetic movement, Latter Rain, Toronto Airport? I would have said, what is this? New Age? I had not a clue, and nothing in my church experience had filled me in that anything had changed in the spiritual climate in the last hundred years. I didn’t watch much TV. No time. I was BUSY. I played my violin for worship services and was involved in a tiny prayer group in a local church. That was my ministry, and God and I had it figured out that this expenditure of time and energy was something we could both be comfortable with. Or so I reasoned, in a way that echoed the sentiments of many others who say: “This is the way I hear God, by reading the Written Word!”

Then something happened.

In January 2008, a fellow Christian, a trustworthy friend of mine, and one not given to flights of fancy, approached me and said he had seen a vision and heard an audible voice, and this message directly concerned me.

No, I won’t tell you what the vision said, or what he saw. What is important here is that I had no grid for processing this kind of event. I tried frantically to think back on those few times in over 40 years of Christian experience that I had heard Him personally. Ok, yes, there were a few, come to think of it; feeling cornered, I had to admit it. At 51 years old, there had been some voices and visions, but I had suppressed these things and never discussed them in polite Christian company.

That night, thinking about the vision, I lay awake all night, shaking. This vision had seemed true. What just happened? Was this for real? Was this safe? Was it God, or the enemy? How could I ever share this with my prayer group-or my husband? They would think I’d flipped out if I said I took it seriously. Was God trying to get through to me? Why hadn’t HE just told me Himself? OK, yes, I had been praying over this same issue lately in that little church prayer group and this vision seemed like a direct answer to those prayers. Was this vision and voice His answer? Why didn’t He just unfold the answers to my prayers in the slow, laborious process of time, through the accumulation of events, the way it seemed He most often did? Should I be shocked that He would answer me THROUGH SOMEONE ELSE in a big flashy way? Wait: was He still operating the way He had in the book of Acts after all?

I prayed all night and finally heard HIM say something in my spirit. I had not heard the Lord in this way in a really long time. Next week I will tell you what HE said.

Hello,

I just want to say it was my pleasure reading your email message. The Lord has been shaping me and getting me to be stronger in all the weak areas of my life. I have become stronger in the Lord and closer to the Lord since i became born again Christian. My brother has just gotten saved as well. He was the biggest distraction and always against me because he was so into Catholicism! But all that changed within 4 months. The Lord got to him and now he reads the WORD and his eyes are opened and i pray that the rest of my family sees the truth as well as my brother did. It all requires patience and trusting in the Lord because this is only a trial for me. I have become really strong in not giving up.

I got a prophecy from Kent about a month ago, it lifted me higher and made me feel so much better knowing i received words of encouragement from the Lord! I believe in miracles and in anything that involves the Lord with all of my heart.

When You Think You Heard God

Greetings!

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
1 Corinthians 14:29

For over twenty years I have been a part of the fivefold ministry. My job has been to equip the Saints of God by teaching how to hear His voice and to know His ways. I am so blessed to know so many who are now hearing God for themselves and others. There are many prophetic ministers to date that are graduates from one of our video correspondence schools. They are offering themselves to anyone who desires to receive a word of prophecy or prophetic prayer. Today there are 328 ministers ordained under Prophetic Ministries Tabernacle of Gainesville, Texas.

He Himself (Jesus) gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God.
Ephesians 4:11,13

I have also tried my best to teach the Saints of God that it is not enough to hear God’s voice; you need to know what He means. Too many times I’ve heard someone say God spoke to them and they were going to do what He said; and no one could stop them. Later I find out they had messed up their lives and their families were paying the price for their error. Being taught what to do when you think you have heard God is as important as knowing how to hear Him.

Kent Simpson & Pastor Gary Langley

Over the years I have visited with many Pastors who have expressed concern about people in their congregation saying, “They heard God.” Obtaining understanding and being sure we know what He is saying requires confirmation. Every word we hear needs to be confirmed through two or more witnesses. It is not enough to just trust your ears only. The final point is that you need to know the exact timing of when God wants you to move or change whatever it is you are presently doing. Do not quit your job or move to another city or anything else that could affect others until you have received solid prophetic counseling. Even if you have heard God you need to know when you are to step out on His word. Being out of His timing can be disastrous. Timing is everything. When you have the assurance you know what He means and confirmation when to do it can greatly increase your confidence. You will either be trusted by others as someone who can hear God or viewed as a flake. It all depends on what you do after you think you have heard God. With the times the way they are and with this weak economy you cannot afford to make a mistake.

What is the First Prophecy in the Bible?

by, Sandy Landry

Sally Landry
Author & Teacher

Well, if you are talking about the first word of God that came to pass, it would have to be “Let there be light.” God spoke to create. He still does. His words come to pass; they contain His creative power. He even called Jesus the “Word.” The word was with Him from the beginning, and then the word became a man who dwelt among us. Jesus was the word that became flesh and lived among us to save us all. God’s word is powerful and alive and creative beyond anything we can imagine. It is powerful like an atom bomb is powerful. We cannot imagine just speaking something into being, but that is what God did.

If we see the first prophecy in the word relating to Jesus, it would have to be Gen. 3:14 and 15 where God says that there will come a seed born to woman that will crush the serpent that deceived Eve. God’s justice is seen as He rights the wrong through the second Adam, and He does it through the seed of woman, even though she was the first one deceived. What a Redeemer and what power to redeem! But first it was a word which is spoken. And the first word was about the word Himself, the very spirit of prophecy: Jesus.

Prophet Kent,

My birthday is on the 16th of January. Last year you had given me an extremely accurate prophecy with many events yet to unfold. But so much of it has already happened exactly as the Lord revealed to you. I need to know what the Lord has for me in 2012 spiritually & professionally and for my newly launched ministry – The Father’s Love International Ministries in the land of Kuwait…there was terrible opposition, battle, slander & accusation just as you had mentioned last year for me…you also mentioned that I should look at establishing myself in the U.S. as well…Please let me know God’s will & timing for this event and how long you see me in the land of Kuwait etc…How do I go about this? My financial status professionally has also taken a downturn since 2007…and I came through some extremely painful & challenging times since then…May the Lord bless you your family and blessed prophetic ministry exceedingly abundantly beyond what you imagined.

God bless you Prophet.

The Beginning of Communism in America

Joy Davidman quotes a Communist who said to her: “Of course we’re imprisoning our opponents and silencing the press and executing hostile elements. But it’s only a temporary expedient, necessary to the ultimate goal.”

COMMUNISM

Word of the Week

Meaning: a way of organizing a society in which the government owns the things that are used to make and transport products (such as land, oil, factories, ships, etc.) and there is no privately owned property ~ Merriam-Webster’s Learner’s Dictionary ~
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,

“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”
Psalms 2:2,3
The New King James Version, (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers) 1998, c1982.

When Will it Come to Pass?

Greetings!

In our logo you will notice the Scripture reference embedded just below the open bible.

Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

We have advanced into a microwave society. Everything must be instantaneous in order to maintain our life of conveniences; however, God has not changed. He is the same even though this world keeps changing; He remains the same and will not conform to our ways. No matter how many ways we coheres God into moving faster He refuses to be compelled. In fact our efforts to move or help God will only SLOW the process.

There is a pattern of events that take place when you receive a prophetic word. First of all there is a “Purpose” why God gives you a personal word which usually includes a word of knowledge, a word of wisdom and prophecy. Many times God will talk about things we may not think is important and we all know that our desires are more important than His; sadly many believe that to be true.

The second phase is the “Process” which most all of us would rather skip if possible; however, this part of the pattern is what changes us and renews our way of thinking. The “Process” most of the time is painful and does require change. Sometimes the change is major and while we are going through the “Process” you may feel like saying, “He is a False Prophet because nothing is happening the way I want it to.” Without going through the “Process” we cannot receive the third and final part of the pattern, His “Promise”.

The “Promise” of His word is what we all want and we want it NOW. Very few people these days want to wait on God’s plan. A large segment of people today expect me to chant a few words, waive my magic wand and proclaim all their problems are fixed. Sorry, it does not work that way.

When asked to pray or prophesy the request usually is for me to seek God to change their mate, friend or boss and the list goes on. More times than not it’s you that He is focused on fixing and not the other way around. When He fixes a problem He does not just apply a band aide and send you on your way. He will take you out of the revolving door that keeps bring you back to the same problem again and again. As He sticks His foot in the door to stop the madness He then will pull you out and place you on a straight and narrow path.

My prayer is that all Christians stay focused on the fact that we are created to serve God our Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit and not the other way around. To make our Goal to do His will for His purpose keeping our eyes on the ultimate price; which is Eternal Life with Him in His Kingdom.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Matthew 6:24

(*definition of Mammon: material wealth or possessions especially as having a debasing influence)

It Was a Bad Seed

by, Sandy Landry

Sally Landry
Author & Teacher

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but despite everything, sometimes a word is just “off.” Or our interpretation is off. A prophet is trying to hear, trying to see, trying to interpret and there are ever increasing levels of faith he must exercise. We don’t stone prophets who miss it like in the Old Testament any more than we stone teachers who miss it or pastors. We are under a new covenant. That is why you are told to test prophecy. You must test it against the written word, against who you are learning God to be, against your own spirit, etc. and so on. And against time and reality. I don’t mean by what your eyes see, but your eyes should see something moving at some point and you are going to have to accept it. Remember the seed. How long will you stare at the ground waiting for the seed to come up before you plant another seed on another site? Unless God gives you the faith, like Ezekiel, to pray for dead bones, there is a time to move on.

It is a mystery. Not every thing about prophecy is easy to understand. Sometimes we have to chalk it up to “we don’t know why.” It is not rocket science, all precise and left brained and exact. It is more like poetry or horticulture. More like a poet explaining horticulture to us. Using that analogy, let’s compare it to growing roses. They are exquisite, but hard to pick and difficult to grow. But they are exquisite. Fragrant, alive, beautiful, and totally worth the trouble to pick.

Kent,

Thank you for all of your prayers and support towards my daughters return. Praise God! She had returned on Dec 18th. But she was very ill. She had gotten a kidney infection while she was out there. She was wandering the streets with another runaway. I had just been with her yesterday night and this morning at the Dell Children’s Hospital, here in Austin, Texas. They are monitoring her as I write this email.

I am very thankful to The Lord! That his mercy and great favor is upon our whole entire family! He is an awesome God!

Again, Thank You to you and your prayer team! And may the Lord richly bless your ministry!

God Has a Word for YOU!

Word of the Week

Greetings!

For a period of about two years I struggled with something the Lord had said to me. He said, “Kent, if everyone could hear Me like you do, I would not need you, nor would I have created prophets for My church.” I had a hard time receiving this word because I realized I would be responsible on a grand scale, people’s lives could be destroyed. Teaching from the Bible is easy compared to speaking the uncompromised word of the Lord. Prophesying into people’s lives will require certain accuracy; there will be no room for error.

When the Holy Spirit speaks inside of you, it is different than when you get a sermon for teaching or preaching. First of all, there is much more power in the voice and presence of the Holy Spirit.

Kent Simpson

At times He will cause you to fall into a trance and weep uncontrollably.

Before I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, I only heard from heaven every so often, maybe once a year. After I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit I gained understanding, the blinders were removed. The Holy Spirit began to speak in long sentences and we had frequent conversations. His words were to the point and powerful. Over time He changed my thoughts and ways when studying the Holy Scriptures. He helps me understand His purpose for the Body of Christ. Every time the Holy Spirit speaks to me His word is burned into my soul and the physical experience changes me.

Many of the things the Holy Spirit has taught me do not fall in line with the main stream of doctrine for this age. Each time the Lord has revealed a new teaching to me, I have had a problem accepting it because I knew that many would not receive the message. Over the years I have found that it is easier for the masses to believe a half-truth rather than trusting the Spirit of truth. However, as of late I have been blessed to hear a few of the “Brand Name” Ministers preaching and teaching some of the same lessons that I was criticized for preaching some 15 to 20 years ago. The main thing is that we are all taught by God being poured into His purpose by His word.

It is written in the prophets,

“And they shall be taught by God.” Therefore, everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.

John 6:45

Never Too Old to Twinkle

by, Sister Ty Boye

“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.”

Philippians 3:1
Sister Ty Boye

Some of you may know I have operated in a natural calling for many years as a violin teacher. One of the most famous methods for teaching is the Suzuki Method. Very briefly, the premise behind Dr. Suzuki’s system is that if a young child easily learns to speak by copying speakers of his mother tongue, he might just as easily learn a musical instrument by copying a teacher using his ears and eyes. We do not learn how to speak by reading a book. Actually, this aspect of his method of teaching always seemed very reminiscent of our Lord’s words that He only did and said what He heard the Father do and say…(John 5:19, for ex.).

Anyway, the first song in Vol. 1 of every Suzuki book is “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. Kids delight in its repetitive motions; to play it well is their first dream, and to do so sometimes takes much of a year to master. There comes a day when it is perfect, and the child is ready to throw it away! After that he sees “Twinkle” as “kids’ stuff”. The teacher does of course move to the next song, but little does the student know that there is a system of review built into the method which requires the review of “Twinkle” at every level, to perfect strokes and gain precision.

Paul was a great teacher, and he did repeat himself! As he pointed out, it should not be regarded as tedious, but SAFE to do so. “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice.” (Phil. 4:4) Then there’s Ephesians-how many times Paul says “in HIM” in the first chapter; this is worthy of meditation in itself. These are the first things, the “Twinkles”, from Him who is the Alpha.

The spiritual analogies suggested here are profound. We do need to “Twinkle”, to meditate on simplest things, at every level of maturity. How often I watched advanced violin students resist the idea of returning to first things and “Twinkling” again. It always seemed that the ones who resisted the need to see and hear freshly, who refused to humble themselves in these practices never could advance to the difficult repertoire. It takes time and humility to see and hear accurately, without preconceived assumptions, in music as in the prophetic!

What Happened?

by, Sandy Landry
People sometimes are confused when they receive a word and it never comes to pass, and years later they are told to let it go. What happened?

Sally Landry
Author & Teacher

God’s ways aren’t ours.

He is vast and inconceivable at times. Remember when He sent Jonah with a word that He was going to destroy Ninevah. And yet He didn’t. He changed His mind when they repented. He knew beforehand that they would repent and he didn’t see fit to include Jonah in the loop. He also knew the vinegar that would produce in Jonah and Jonah got a lesson about God out of the experience. He is not arbitrary or wishy washy. You can be certain of that. But in a world where all of us have free will, our free wills give us a measure of power and God’s purposes in our lives are more important to Him than committing Himself to what a prophet speaks to us. Just ask Jonah about that.

It got too much sun. Too much exposure. Too much rain.

There are times when our clinging to a word becomes an obsession. We are not really exercising faith. We are almost into idolatry, worshiping our “word,” faithfully clinging to it, demanding that God fulfill His promise to us. We are unwilling to trust God who is bigger than the word. We become sort of like Job who had to find out the hard way that God was bigger than the deal Job thought he had made with him which went something like “I sacrifice and you keep me from harm.” How could God let bad things happen to this good guy? Because God was going to reveal to Job how really big He was. Bigger than the small deal that Job had with God in the beginning. Job moved out of the place where he had to admit he didn’t understand God and all His ways like He had thought He had. But He found out, despite the suffering, that God was really bigger and better than he had imagined.

Remember Shadrach and the boys? They believed that he would save them from the furnace, but they kept a clause in it that if He didn’t He was still God and they trusted Him. He is bigger than a word. Nothing can separate us from His love. Not even death. Read Hebrews 11 about all the people who died in faith believing for something they never saw. God was really proud of that bunch. Called them by name.

Dear Prophet Kent Simpson:

In the Year 2004 and 2005 God gave us a prophetic word through that we were going to be blessed with a home but this is a season to wait and if you wait you are going to be glad that you waited because you can name your price.

Further, we just closed on a 4 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage home at a 3.5% fixed interest rate. This house originally sold for $250,000.00 in 2004 and we just purchased it for $72,000.00 and just as the prophetic word spoke it came to pass, we are glad we waited; we did name our price.

Finally, thank you Prophet Kent Simpson, for obeying the Most High and moving in the prophetic ministry because truly the prophetic anointing on your life has been a blessing to us.

May you and your family have a blessed and prosperous New Year.

Sincerely,
Jerald and Sophia Hooper from Florida

Building Character Through Tribulations

Whenever God gives us a cross to bear, it is a prophecy that will also give us strength. As a knot appears unexpectedly in a thread, so disappointment blocks the smoothness of life. If a few masterful strokes can untangle the mess, life continues evenly; but if it cannot be corrected, then it must be quietly woven into the design. Thus the finished piece can still be beautiful though not as perfect as planned.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

My Prophecy Did Not Work

Greetings!
I can remember the first time I was contacted and inform that their word of prophecy had not come to pass. I asked them if they had the recorded prophecy with them. The word was clear and even gave a time frame of when their word was to come to pass. As I listened to their word I was immediately take back to the meeting and I could feel and hear the overall experience of God speaking in me all over again with amazing clarity. Puzzled I could not find an answer to give the person. Immediately I began the quest for finding out what went wrong.

For days I sought God for an answer, assumptions were running rampant within my mind and I was losing sleep over the ordeal. Exhausted I stopped seeking and gave thought to throwing in the towel giving up the ministry all together. The very next day the Holy Spirit began to teach me about the ways of God in this matter. First of all God is not interested in making me look good for the sake of my own self edification. As a minister my life belongs totally to God and He will use me however He so desires. Thus I learned a new lesson from this experience; that God will use you as “His Fish Bait” sometimes to get what He wants. He even gives His word to the messenger knowing that the word will not come to pass, to humble the minister. Because we all know that before a haughty spirit is a great fall. Another reason I discovered; He may use His minister to prophesy a word to a person or nation knowing they will react to the word even though the word will not come to pass. Like we use reverse psychology to get our children to do what we want them to.

The biblical foundation for this term “Being His Fish Bait” comes from the book of Jonah beginning in the first chapter. To paraphrase, God had told Jonah to deliver His word of destruction that would come upon Nineveh and no would live through it. Well, Johan did not want to deliver this message; however, from the belly of a whale he was delivered. Jonah convinced by the fear of God to speak His word and the people flocked to hear the man that was spewed upon the beach out of the month of a big fish. Jonah delivered the word and the King of Nineveh ordered the entire Nation to fast and repent to Jonah’s God. Then the Bible records that God relented and called off the destruction of Nineveh and the people lived another 400+ years. Jonah was very upset because God did not fulfill His word and God came to Jonah and basically said; “Are you upset with Me because I did not kill 120,000 people so you could be right?”

The bottom line is we do not know all the ways and thoughts of our God. I remind you, He is God and He can do whatever He so wills for He is God of ALL things in ALL situations.

Resolution to Exercise

by, Sister Ty Boye

“But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

I Timothy 4:7-8
Sister Ty Boye

Recently I reread these verses and reflected on some of the moth-eaten sport-coated teachers whose interpretations turned me off in the past. “Exercising” toward “godliness” always seemed to involve a huge effort with many rules and regulations. I imagined that I could never measure up to their standard of being “godly”, even with the most intense Godliness Gym membership. It was much easier to relate to bodily exercise, even if the profit was only temporal. At least fitness programs produced renewed zest for physical life. From the parade of churches I experienced in my youth, it seemed that the traditional exercise in “godliness” only made people dry and cold as a statue.

Later I understood that “godliness” comes from the Greek word, “eusebeia”, which translates (EU) well + (SEBEIEA) reverence, describing a reverential awe that is directed “well”, that is, toward the Lord. One good definition is: “Godliness is a right attitude and response to the Living God that manifests itself in a preoccupation from the heart with holy and sacred realities.”(www.preceptaustin.com). As born again believers we know that it is not possible to achieve “godliness” by right choices and good behavior. We only have it when we ask the Life to dwell in us, when we continually ingest the spiritual milk of HIS Word, and when we are in submission to Him, empowered by and obeying His Holy Spirit.

So how do we exercise godliness? Ancient physical training did not involve suiting up in expensive gear while watching CNN from a high-tech treadmill. Bluntly, the meaning of the Greek word “GYMNASO” was to “train naked”. Thus vs. 7-8 might read:

“Reject the false lessons of worldly wisdom and maturity, which have no ultimate value, strip away all pretences and hindrances, and occupy yourself with deep reverence for holy and sacred realities.” In short, get absolutely real (honest and humble) and ask Him in and spend time with Him. The exciting part is that Paul assures us the benefit of this exercise is not just in the life to come, but also “in the life that now is.” A good warm-up exercise to consider:

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh….”

What Happened?

by, Sandy Landry

People sometimes are confused when they receive a word and it never comes to pass, and years later they are told to let it go. What happened?

Sally Landry
Author & Teacher

I think to answer your question, we can relate it to the analogy of the seed. If we regard a prophecy like a seed, let us think of your question in relation to a seed that never sprouted.

I planted a seed and it was supposed to produce a tree, but it never came up. Why?

It wasn’t watered properly. It did not receive proper nutrients. It did not get proper sun. The things that might kill a seed in the ground are many.

It is possible there were attitudes and behaviors that were meant to be changed to see the word come to pass and they were not. While there are sometimes words that will come to pass regardless of what anyone does, at other times, there are conditions that must be met. Remember when God said to Israel that if they did this, He would do that? It is not as though it is hidden and impossible to understand and we have to guess what we are to do. We usually know what is required of us.

Is it possible your plant needed cross pollination to produce fruit?

I remember one time that my husband planted squash. He had the most beautiful plants grow and he took care of them famously, and yet they didn’t produce squash. They needed to cross pollinate, and it didn’t happen. We are not always able to “obey” for every person who might be involved. Think of Caleb and Joshua. They had a word that they could take their enemies, and they could have. They had faith for it. But because of the unbelief of others, it took forty years for them to get their promise. There are variables at times. That makes certain prophecies complicated. Sorry.

Comments and Testimonies

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.      ~ Rev. 19:10b

Prophecy is the testimony that Jesus is not dead but Alive and Speaking to you and I.

Dear Pastor, Friend and Prophet

My stepfather who was not expected to live and flown to the hospital with half a lung, bacterial infection, pneumonia, and in need of open heart surgery was too weak to operate on. Less than about two weeks later he is now home and gaining weight and doing remarkably well. Praise be to God.

I’m so thankful for all your prayers.

Patricia

Confirming God’s Prophetic Word

There will be an abundance of static in the heavens in 2011. Caution will demand that we will need confirmation for every prophetic word we receive. If the word comes through a prophecy or whether you hear God’s voice directly you will need confirmation. Either way you do not want to step out on any one’s word without first receiving confirmation through two or more witnesses. You must know that the word is from God and most of all know when to move on the word. Timing will be everything, do not get ahead of God’s will.

Static

Word of the Week

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
