How Do You Prophesy?

This interview between Pastor Ras Robinson and Prophet Kent Simpson took place in August of 1994. Its purpose is to familiarize pastors and laypersons with those who operate in the prophetic gifts. It is our desire to see the church allow freedom for the prophetically gifted to come into the congregations to minister to the saints.

The body of Christ has been instructed in the scriptures not to despise prophecy.

Of all the gifts we are to pursue prophecy
1 Corinthians 14:1

“Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy”
1 Corinthians 14:1

There are many questions about whether prophecy is really of God. How can we know it is of God? What do we do when we get a word from a prophetic minister? I hope you will find the answers to these and other questions in the following interview.

PASTOR RAS: I know, Brother Kent that you have an ability to prophesy over people whose face you have never seen. You have never looked into their eyes, yet you can prophesy even with just a note from a person asking for a prophecy. Tell us about that.

PROPHET KENT: Well, it is not really a situation where I need to see the individual, because you must realize that the gift comes from the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that He did not speak on His own authority but spoke only what the Father told Him to say (John 12:49). He told His disciples that it would be better for Him to go to the Father and that He would ask the Father to send us the Holy Spirit (John 14:16).

Now, just as Jesus did not speak on His on authority neither does the Holy Spirit. Whatever He, the Holy Spirit, hears the Father say, that is what He speaks through the prophetic vessel. That is what I began to do: to speak what I heard the Holy Spirit say. In the beginning it was difficult for me to prophesy to someone I had never seen. The way I started prophesying to those I had never seen was when an individual called me wanting to receive a prophetic word I realized that because of distance and schedules it would be impossible for us to meet face to face. God’s sovereign hand and divine plan would see to it that we could not meet together. Suddenly out of my mouth came the words, “Well, just give me your name and address and I will pray and ask God and put on cassette tape what He would say to you.”

When I hung up the phone I was hit by fear. I thought to myself, “How am I going to do this?” Then the Holy Spirit spoke so clearly and said, “Either you hear me or you don’t.” It boils down to this, it is not in seeing or touching the person or even having their picture. It is simply having an ear to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to the Church. If you are one of God’s, you are the Church.

Should Prophets Be Judged?

PASTOR RAS: Should you judge the messenger who gives a word?

PROPHET KENT: No, God can use anyone he chooses to deliver a word. You must never judge the messenger by his past, where he stands with the Lord or even by what he does. God can use a donkey if he so desires (Numbers 22: 28). We have no right to decide if God should use a questionable person or not. It does not matter how long the messenger has walked with the Lord either. I have seen some individuals come to the Lord and mature and grow spiritually very quickly. Often a young Christian, called to the prophetic, will give a word but because we judge him or her as too young in the Lord we will not receive the word. That can damage the young Christian and make it difficult for him or her to have the confidence to step out and deliver a word the next time they receive one. This will stifle the prophetic from flowing in the Body of Christ. If we are to be fair to the young convert we should give the word time to come to pass before judging it.

PASTOR RAS: What is the difference between an Old Testament Prophet and a New Testament Prophet?

PROPHET KENT: There are those in the mainstream of the Body of Christ that say that there is a difference in the powers of an Old Testament and New Testament Prophet. I really do not see a difference in their abilities or powers. The only difference is their message. In the Old Testament prophets foretold of the coming of Christ and the destruction of Jerusalem. New Testament Prophets should build and edify the Kingdom of God. The evidence of power seen in the Old Testament Prophets is seen in New Testament Prophets of today. They have the same gift and calling.

PASTOR RAS: Can a prophecy be changed?

PROPHET KENT: Yes, but only by God. There is an example of a prophecy being changed by God in the Old Testament. God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and prophecy that God was going to destroy their nation. God did not give any conditions to prohibit the prophecy from coming to pass. After receiving the word the King commanded the whole nation to fast and pray, even the animals. God relented and did not destroy them. Jonah was upset and went under a tree and sulked. God asked Jonah, “Are you upset because I did not kill 120,000 people so that you could be right?” God did not care if Jonah looked like a fool. God is no respecter of persons.

PASTOR RAS: What about a person who is immature in receiving a Word?

PROPHET KENT: There is a great need for more teaching on the prophetic in the Body of Christ. People need to be prepared to receive a word, to know what to expect and what not to expect. Experience is the best teacher. Prophecy changes peoples’ lives. It is not something to be feared. Churches need to open themselves up and allow seasoned prophets to teach and usher in this prophetic move of God. This interview alone would indicate there is still so much that the Body of Christ does not understand about the office of a New Testament Prophet.

Judging a True Prophet?

PASTOR RAS: It is amazing to me. With all this, getting Words of Knowledge about people, looking into their future, telling something that will happen to them, you are kind of going out on a limb. You are projecting into an unknown area to the layperson. How then, is a person to judge if a prophecy they receive is from a true prophet of God?

PROPHET KENT: God answered this question in Deuteronomy 18:10-22. If it comes to pass, then it is of God. If it does not come to pass do not fear the prophet that gave the word. He did not say that he is a false prophet, just not to fear him, because he spoke presumptuously.

A prophet must always remember that he is merely the human being chosen to deliver a word from the Holy Spirit. He must not let his emotions enter his mind so that he will not be influenced by his flesh. It is easy for a prophet because of his compassion to see people healed, delivered, set free from poverty etc. to presumptuously say, “God’s going to heal you!” That is what the prophet wants to see happen. He does not have the authority to say anything unless he first hears the Holy Spirit say it. Even if the Holy Spirit revealed, through a Word of Knowledge to the prophet, a sickness a person may have, it is presumption to go ahead and say, “You are going to be healed.” The Holy Spirit only revealed the sickness. He did not say he would be healed. Our carnal mind, however, wants to say God is going to take care of this matter right now. That is not always the way the Lord does it.

Once, the Lord had me prophesy to a person that he would have to wait for God to send him to another minister to receive his healing. This individual came to a service I was ministering at wearing a battery pack attached to his waist. It sent electrical shocks to his nerve endings in his back to keep them from dying while he recovered from major back surgery. This individual had worked for the electric company reading meters. His job required him to climb and jump over fences. The jarring of his back while completing these tasks had destroyed five vertebras in his back. Doctors surgically placed two metal rods in his back and told him he would probably never walk again. I told him what the lord had said, that He would send another minister to pray for him. However, my flesh desperately wanted to tell him that he was going to receive his healing that night! The kindest thing I could have done for him was to give him the word from the Lord exactly as I had received it.

Not long, about 6 weeks after I prophesied to him, he attended a meeting where Benny Hinn was ministering. Sure enough, someone prayed for him and he was healed. The man has had x-rays of his back made since the night he was prayed for and the metal rods are gone they do not even show on the ex-ray. He now works for Benny Hinn’s ministry and has had many opportunities to give his testimony of healing.

PASTOR RAS: Brother Kent, I have a personal question I want to ask you. Through the years, I have received some awesome Words. I have recorded and kept them all. How do I discern or judge these words? What do I do to let my heart and mind receive these Words? Some of the Words I have gotten are so high and lofty. I mean, I know myself, so how could I ever receive such a Word? How does a person judge a word that he receives?

PROPHET KENT: Okay, I will try not to burst your bubble. You say you have been given great, lofty even grandiose words pertaining to your future. Often we who are “seers” see something the Lord is going to do in someone’s life that seems so grand that they are often overwhelmed by their word. However, when the word begins to manifest and the Holy Spirit brings the word back to their remembrance they think “That’s it? That’s all there is? This is what the Holy Spirit was referring to?” Their mind pictured what was to happen as something very big and important.

I am not saying that what actually happened was not big or important. I am saying that what is big or important to God sometimes does not equal what we think of as big or important. As I said earlier, God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways. We do, however, need to begin to see that God’s way is the best way, for after all He is the very creator of the universe.

After Apostle Paul had his Damascus Road encounter, he went to the desert for a time to be taught and prepared for his ministry by the Holy Spirit. When he emerged from the desert he met Ananias, a prophet, who prophesied to him that he would preach to the Jews, the Gentiles and Kings and that he would also suffer much in the name of the Lord. That is how he received his calling, from the prophecy given by Ananias.

Paul probably thought, “Wow, I am going to preach to kings. I wonder how I will get there. Maybe I will go in a caravan of camels with my own entourage of servants. Perhaps the King will come to hear me preach in the synagogue.” But, that is not how it happened. Paul preached to kings alright, but he was in chains and imprisoned. Remember when Agabus took Paul’s belt and bound himself up with it? He then said that the person that the belt belonged to would have the same thing happen to him. The people cried out to Paul, “Don’t go, don’t go.” Paul replied, “I will do the will of the Lord for it is His will that I go.” He knew that part of his calling was to suffer much in the name of the Lord. If he had not gone he would never have stood before King Aggripa. He was summoned by King Aggripa from prison to preach the Gospel of Christ to him. This is how the first part of his prophecy came to pass.

Paul’s road to the palace was paved with prison, chains, beatings and shipwreck. I am sure that Paul never thought he would fulfill the word he received from Ananias in this manner. The reason he was able to sing praises to God while he was chained in prison was because he knew he was in the perfect will Of God. He knew firsthand that God’s grace is sufficient. It is better to never assume anything when you receive a word. Just be patient and wait on God to bring it to pass.

What Does the Bible Say About Receiving Prophecy?

PASTOR RAS: I have always been fascinated by Paul’s instruction to Timothy about the prophecies made concerning him. “This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck” (I Timothy 1:18,19). It says clearly in this passage that by following those prophecies Timothy might fight the good fight. Those prophecies were for direction in Timothy’s life. Paul indicates that Timothy, because of the prophecies given by the Elders and Presbytery, (I Timothy 4:14) could fight the good fight of faith and could stand up holding on to good faith and conscience.

PROPHET KENT: I am glad you are the one that said that, and not me! Let’s face it, I am on the cutting edge here and a lot of times my face feels like an old plow hitting hard ground. In my position I have to be cautious of the things I say. Even if I were to use scripture such as in First Timothy, it would appear as if I were trying to lead people by my words. When you get right down to it, if it is my word, nothing is going to come of it anyway. If it is the Lord’s word, who can stop it?

Timothy could have tried to war against what God said, but it still would have happened. It is better to go with God’s will for your life than to reject His call. I have seen people who have tried to reject their word but it still came to pass and it wasn’t pretty.

Paul told Timothy not to neglect the gift in him that was given to him by prophecy and the laying on of hands by the presbytery. The presbytery was made up of seasoned prophets and elders, men perfected in their gift and established in their calling. They were not men just hanging around giving parking lot prophecies. They were respected by the church leaders and the congregation. Paul told Timothy to follow their words because they came from seasoned ministers who had been established. I would like to add that God gives gifts to men and women alike, for there is no male or female in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Can Prophets Be Wrong?

PASTOR RAS: I have something I want to ask you. I know a person who is being trained to be a prophet. He came to me with a word supposedly from the Lord. However, because of self-centeredness or self-glorifying the word seemed disqualified. I am sure he believed the word was from the Lord, yet the word seemed a little contaminated. Do Prophets ever miss? How is an individual to judge that? What is an individual to do who has received a prophecy that really was not accurate?

PROPHET KENT: Those are good questions. First, I would like to point out that Prophets do sometimes misunderstand what the Holy Spirit is saying. They sometimes want to add to the word the Holy Spirit has given through them. It is an easy thing to do. Even John, who wrote the book of Revelations, was warned not to add to or subtract from the words given in the prophecy, lest the plagues written therein be added to him. The individual who prophesies must have a great understanding of the Holy Spirit. It is not enough to hear The Holy Spirit you must know what He means, for The Lord’s thoughts are not our thoughts or His ways our ways (Isaiah 55:8). Accuracy of a prophet is one of the first areas in which he or she will be tested. Only then will his or her prophetic mantle be recognized.

A prophet must never be arrogant or desire self-edification. He must never appear to be building his own kingdom, but rather the Kingdom of God. The gifts of the Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers are given for perfecting of the saints (Ephesians 4:11). They will bring us all to a measure of the fullness of Christ, that the whole body may be joined and knitted together. When every joint is working effectively by doing its share it causes growth to the Body. A prophet must come with a heart ready to minister to the saints in love, desiring to see their situation change for good. He will want to seek the face of God for them, so that they may be delivered from hindrances and bondages that hold them. Prophets are merely servants of the body of Christ.

In answering your question of what to do when you receive an inaccurate word, as I said earlier in this interview, if an individual receives a word from a prophet, and it does not come to pass do not fear him, he spoke presumptuously. God is not going to punish you because you received an inaccurate word which you thought came from a true prophet of the Lord. God is quite capable of dealing with anyone who knowingly gives a false word. I would not want to be in his or her shoes!

Should Prophecy Bear Witness With Your Heart?

PASTOR RAS: It has been my belief that when you receive a prophecy, in order to believe it is from God it must be consistent with the scriptures and your knowledge of who God is. Should it be consistent with the way God usually operates in people’s lives and bears witness with your heart? Even if the word is hard to receive something inside the person should say, “Yes and amen.” Should you maybe get council from your presbytery or even your best friend? What is your viewpoint, do you agree with any of these questions?

PROPHET KENT: Well, that is a lot of questions. We could probably spend the rest of this interview discussing these three or four questions. I will, however, try to answer them in the order that you asked them.

In response to your first question, I have seen prophets limit the Holy Spirit in what He would say to a person because he, the prophet, did not want to step outside the bounds of just quoting scripture. If a prophet is just going to limit himself or herself to just quoting scripture he or she might as well quit right now. If that were the case anyone could read the Bible and give someone a word.

Please understand, I am not saying the Holy Spirit will never refer to the scriptures in the giving of a word, but He is not bound to just the written word. If He were to tell a person that he was going to have a radio ministry in what chapter and verse would he find that written? However, a radio ministry definitely would not go against the written word or God’s character. If you were to need to know from God whom to marry, where to go to school, what to buy or sell etc. what chapter and verse would give you the answer?

The Lord desires to give you personal direction for your life through the prophetic word. The Church has come to the place that it can now believe what is written from Genesis to Revelation. That is where the Full Gospel movement got its name. They believe that everything in the written word actually took place. The Lord is taking us from faith to faith. He is leading His church to the place that we can believe not only what was written, but also what is being spoken today. God desires to have a personal relationship with each of us, to commune with us. How are we to be led by the Spirit if we are not willing to hear what he has to say to us today?

We tend to think of the Bible, as the word of God, but Jesus is the Word (John I: 1 – 4). He can speak to you through the written word (Logos) or spoken word (Rhema). I do not mean to take away from the importance of the scriptures. The scriptures help you tune in your ear to the Lord, like a tuning fork. If you think you are going to hear God without reading the scriptures you are going to miss it because you do need the book. My point is this: the same Spirit that gave us the inspired written words recorded in the Bible is the same Spirit that gives inspired utterances to the prophets of today. A god that does not speak is a dead god. Our God is very much alive.

Our Lord has a distinctive character and personality. You learn of them in the scriptures. If you know His character and personality you will know if your word is of the Lord, for a word should always line up with them. God will often use the personality of the prophet to deliver the word, but it should still line up with the character and precepts of the Lord. For example, Amos did not prophesy as eloquently as Isaiah did. Isaiah could make many of us appear to be illiterate. Amos on the other hand was just an old farm boy. His delivery may have sounded uneducated, but it still had the fragrance and knowledge of God.

There are times when I have received a word I was not sure was truly from the Lord, but I did not throw it away. I simply put it on a shelf and waited. When it did not come to pass I did not go around telling everyone that the one who gave it was a false prophet. We must be willing to extend grace to those who are in the process of perfecting their gift. Remember were grace is given, grace is received.

In reference to your second question, I have had people say, “No, that is not me. That is not where I’m going; how can that happen because it does not bear witness with my spirit?” Well, it did not bear witness with their head! You cannot judge prophecy with your mind. If the word given was prophetic (not a Word of Knowledge or a Word of Wisdom) then it is in the future, it has not happened yet. Of course, it may not bear witness with your spirit. Do you think it bore witness with David’s spirit when Nathan prophesied that because of his sin God would bring a sword upon his house? I don’t think so!

There usually is no evidence of any of the word taking place in your life at the time it is given, because God has not begun to lead you in that direction. Often a person will try to be something he is not called to be. He is frustrated believing the Devil is hindering him from accomplishing what he believes God wants him to do. He may even have tried to bind the Devil from coming against him, when in actuality he was binding God. The Lord may have been trying to stop him from going in a direction that He has not ordained for him. A person could be doing something that we would consider a good thing. However, if God is not involved it is considered a dead work and repentance is required (Hebrews 6: 1). It is important that we find out from God what He has called us to do individually and do that for anything more or less would be disobedient.

Finally, I want to address your last question. Should you receive counsel after receiving a word? As a boy, Joseph had a dream that he would someday be a great man and that his whole family would bow at his feet. This was a prophetic dream. When he shared it with his brothers they became angry and plotted to get rid of him. We all know that Joseph found himself thrown into a well by his brothers. They did not believe Joseph’s dream, but that did not keep it from coming to pass.

There are times when one may need to seek counsel and there are times when it is better to keep your word to yourself. The Bible says that Mary, Jesus’ mother, after hearing all that was told to the shepherds by the Angels of the Lord, kept those things and pondered them in her heart (Luke 2: 17 – 19). She knew if she were to share with every one she met all the things the Lord had revealed to her before its appointed time they would think she was crazy.

I believe that it is very important to record every word I give, because I need to be accountable for them. I find that most people cannot remember their word after they receive it. If there is any misunderstanding of the word they can go back and listen to it over and over again. I do not think it is wise to let just any one listen to your word. They may want to take it apart, dissect it and give their own interpretation. This will only cause confusion and will not affect the outcome of the word whatsoever. If it is of God no one can stop it from happening.

The purpose of seeking counsel after receiving a word usually is to judge the word. Paul said, “The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets” (I Corinthians 14: 32). That would indicate that the best person to judge a prophecy is another prophet. To take a word of prophecy and give it to someone who neither operates in nor knows about the gift to judge it is like trying to write your name with your foot. It is the wrong part of the body. It is not their calling. It works better if you use the correct member of the body.

Who Is A False Prophet?

PASTOR RAS: When I first began to learn about prophecy, nearly 20 years ago, I basically learned how to spell the word. I did not know much about it. I thought then that surely this was the time when the Spirit was going to be poured out and all would prophesy. However, there were about ten years beginning in about 1975 that, in my circles, there was almost never a prophecy given. We then went through a time with the Kansas City Prophets and all the things that happened there. Then in our Fullness Conferences, a couple of years ago, we began to have people like Paul Cain and one or two others who came and gave some teaching and some Prophetic Words.

I cannot speak for all parts of the body, but even today there is not a real outpouring of the prophetic gift. I believe we may now be on the leading edge of something new. With all that said, I want to ask you this question. What is your definition of a false prophet? I know that the answer to this question is a concern to many people.

PROPHET KENT: False Prophets are mentioned a number of times in the scriptures. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that if there are false prophets then there also must be true prophets somewhere. The process of culling them out should not be as difficult as we try to make it.

A powerful Evangelist once wrote a booklet called “Satan’s Evangelist”. He pointed out Hugh Hefner, producer of Play Boy magazine, and Larry Flynt, producer of Hustler magazine and Madam O’hara, as people who have spent a great deal of time and money leading people away from the Lord Jesus Christ. Anyone who leads people into open sin, to believe that sin is okay and has no consequence, or that there is no God so eat, drink, and be merry for nothing is going to come of it, is a false evangelist. The same is true with false prophets.

Years ago you would turn on your television and you would see 900 numbers offering psychics, tarot card readers, star-gazers and omen readers. These people will not lead you to Jesus Christ. I believe that they are why the Lord is raising up the prophetic in the Church today. Where it is dark it is getting darker and where it is light it is getting brighter. I have been in contact with too many Christians who have called those numbers. They want to know of things to come, but they are indoctrinated so heavily about false prophets that they are afraid to consult a “prophet”. They do not know that they will receive a curse on their life as penalty for seeking a psychic or spiritualist. God is using the Prophets of today to reverse the curse for those who have sought false prophets.

I have seen the destruction in these individual’s lives, for Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. What the Psychics say to you may not sound as though it will bring destruction in your life. You may even think they are totally wrong, but those things they said will begin to work in your life, because you came believing in and receiving from them. If you come into agreement with the devil or any of his ambassadors you will receive a curse. The Church must stop judging so harshly those who are attempting to walk out and begin operating in their gifts. Paul said to Timothy in I Timothy 4:14, “Do not neglect the gift that was given unto you through prophecy, and laying upon of hands.” If we are not going to neglect it, we must then learn to perfect it. If we are to learn to perfect it we need a place to operate in it.

There is no better place, I pray, than amongst those who are gracious and merciful enough to allow people to begin to step out into prophecy and learn. You are not suddenly “zapped” and it begins to work in you. It is something you have to begin to perfect. Everybody has muscles. They come in all different sizes, depending on how much they are used. They can be massive or they can be almost non-existent, but they are there. It is the same with the gift. It is there; we just need to see it begin to be exercised.

There needs to be an atmosphere for the laying on of hands and prophecy to stir up the gifts in one another, to see that gift manifested. The gift does come in measure. In the book of Romans chapter 12, it is recorded that we prophesy by the measure of faith, not our faith but the gift of faith that comes to us from the Holy Spirit. Now, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The scriptures say we know in part and prophesy in part. I am not going to know everything about those who seek a word. I cannot read their minds or see everything that is going to happen in their lives. I can only see part and know about that part of their lives that God reveals. That is why it is good to get a little part here and a little part there, like pieces of a puzzle. The more pieces you get the bigger the picture is and the clearer the Word of the Lord.

Confirmation is greatly needed, because when you hear the Word of the Lord through two or more witnesses every word is established. The true test for obtaining confirmation is to ask the Holy Spirit to confirm God’s will in a way you know without a double that it is Him and not man’s will. Too many people go around sharing their word with their friend and then asking them what they think. This is not going give you anything but the opinion of that person. We need to be patient and allow the Holy Spirit to confirm the word in His own way. This process within itself can become a very strong testimony to share later and a great experience in learning the ways of God.

Dear Prophet Kent,

Just found you on Elisha List and the Lord does want me to come to your ministry and get under the Prophetic Spout, I’ve been involved in the Hollywood film industry and then the Lord sent me to Nashville,TN where my wife Cheryl came under tremendous physical attacks, blood clots, hospital stays. I brought her to North Carolina to her original doctor, he ordered ultra sound of the pancreas, results come Monday, so please pray for that.

Your testimonies from your Norway trip are awesome; the prophetic is so needed today.

Pastor Gary Greenwald has been a friend of mine for years, I’m sure you know Pastor Gary at Eagle’s Nest, California. Prophet Dennis Tinerino was also a good friend but has gone on to be with the Lord, your ministry is so needed especially here in the South. A prophet from California gave me a word that I would be ministering in the Colonial States, I had no intentions, but here I am in the South, the prophetic is valuable for protection and direction. I am also Texas born, Wichita Falls. I will become a partner for sure. Lord I thank you for Kent, that he sees what You see, here’s what You hear, and speaks what You speak.

Regarding My Prophecy,

It was right on………..and confirmation. Thank you. …..oh btw…..there was even a manifestation of a Feather floating next to me right after I received the word. Confirmation of the Messenger Angel.

Kris K.

Brother Kent,

I have to Give you a testimony on a Prayer cloth and thank you for a prophetic cd you sent me. My name is Michele Giampietro and I am a member of Bethel Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Old Westbury in NY.

My mother had a plumber as well as a family friend doing some work in her home just less than a week ago when he fell 17 feet from her attic to a hard tile stairway. He cracked his skull open in two places. My mom a backslidden Christian called me immediately to tell me, that he was in critical care and might not make it. I brought my prayer cloth with Hebrews 1-14 and 1 Timothy 4:14 on it. My mother and I prayed for a few hours to for him, his family and for her and my stepdad. I left the cloth with my mom. I had my friends praying, as well as I all week. I saw angels administering immediately, and one of my elders said God would keep him through the night. The doctors operated on his skull it was cracked in two places and in a coma.

Today at church I brought my mom it’s the second time she has been back in a Pentecostal church in over 25 years. She came feeling guilt (which we and she even knows is not of God. To cut to the chase I had your prayer cloth and had it when I went up with my mom to have elders pray on us. The church went wild today, no sermon….but a Holy Ghost party……Our pastor knew it was something breaking from heaven….a healing, miracles……I took my mom and your prayer cloth sent and we worshiped and danced around our church.

We then visited he hospital and I wrote psalm 91 on the cloth, it was what my mom and I agreed upon. The family said we could come and is Roman Catholic and my mom was concerned of me praying. I said we had to be in agreement. I told my mom to calm down and confidently went in led by the Holy Spirit into a huge family of the young man’s waiting room. They welcomed us. I hugged the mom and prayed and read Psalms 91 and asked her to place the cloth under her son. He was still in coma and incubator.

Tonight when I got home my mom called me and said when the young man’s mom placed the cloth under his pillow, he coughed and his trachea tube came out and he is breathing on his own. He also touched her leg today. We a so joyous for this is a miracle. We still have prayer ahead of us, but I see deliverance and am so grateful for your prayer cloth and prophecy that I am going to order another one……so look for me….Michele Giampietro….

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Jesus is amazing and a true miracle man! Praise God!

God bless you!
All my love and blessings.
Michele

PROPHETS are DIME a DOZEN

Therefore, His word must be prayed, preached and prophesied on earth as it is being proclaimed in heaven. If we are truly speaking and prophesying His Word on earth as in heaven, the devil does not stand a chance. And this is why the enemy knows he must do everything he can to shut the mouths of those who are prophesying on earth, for the things that are being revealed in heaven and then prophesied on earth will crush the enemy. This is why you who are His vessels being used to prophesy His Word are under such a horrendous attack. Satan is sending his vessels to torment and to steal, kill and try to destroy you so you can no longer be an instrument of God on earth. Yes, we are dime a dozen in the sense that there are millions of us and millions more coming right behind us. AMEN!

By the way, just in case you might have forgotten the word amen is defined as “so be it.” What better way to describe true prayer? When you are praying what is being spoken in heaven you are truly declaring His will on earth as in heaven.

Therefore, I pray the fire of the Lord be shut up into your bones with the power to deflect all the works of the enemy that you may prosper in wealth, health and a soundness of mind.
3 John 2

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly”
John 10:10

Prophets and Prophetesses

Prophets and prophetesses, which is correct or what is the difference? The only difference is a prophetess is a female prophet and a prophet is a male prophet. I have noticed a lot of woman have indicated that the differentiation puts too much focus on gender. There is truth in this because you do not see any difference in the titles for any of the other accession gift ministries. An apostle is the same for male or female, as is the evangelist, pastor or teacher so why is the office of a prophet different. Why is there a need to flag the difference in gender just for the office of a prophet?

The only reason we use the prophetess title is because it’s consistent in the Holy Scriptures and it is the only title that carries over from the Old Testament to the New Testament. The only reason that I can think that a woman would be upset if they were referred to as a prophetess is if they think they are somehow beneath a prophet. If this is the case then there really should not be any argument because both the prophetess and the prophet are given the same in function, authority and responsibility. Instead of focusing on the titles given, we should be directing our attention to the purpose of those given these titles of prophet or prophetess.

Why Have Titles, Do We Really Need Them?

I know a lot of people are really hung up on titles, and it appears that there are two opposing camps. The first camp does not like titles and would rather folks just not use them at all. From this camp come a variety of reasons why they do not like to hear people give a title or introduce themselves with a title. Some get upset because it sounds like they are showing off or hiding behind their title as if to put others on notice that they are someone of importance. Others do not like it because it puts them in a box and limits their ability to flow in and out of other groups. The reasons are endless and I probably do not even know half of them, but the bottom line is titles are in the Holy Scriptures and if God thinks they are necessary then that is good enough for me.

On the other hand, we know there are a lot of people who call themselves whatever makes them sound important and acceptable. Little do they know it can really make them sound cheap if they cannot fulfill the calling of that title.

The other camp is composed of those who are the titling gurus, interested in organizing and categorizing everyone. For these people if you do not have a title they make one for you like “nobody”. We know that can sound a bit snobbish; however, we must understand that people who are called to be administrators and even leaders in their minds are constantly categorizing. They truly do not mean any harm and they are part of a necessary group that keeps order. They are the glue that holds the data together so the history makers can make solid decisions on issues that help the kingdom of God function. They are more analytical and look at giftings, abilities, talents and a sundry of other attributes that help them title the people within the organization. The free-spirited folks usually have a problem with these types of personalities. Those who are light at heart are very protective and wish to be among the people, for they are all about the people not the titles, numbers, offerings or anything that could isolate a person or make them feel inferior. We need to see the value of both types and we must respect one another’s gifts and callings.

God is building an army, preparing for a huge manifestation of the supernatural powers in action. It will take all of us working in unity to win this spiritual war. We are the light and salt of the earth and we will soon see that things like arguing over titles will shortly become a non-issue for discussion. When this time approaches, most Christians will be totally caught off guard and clueless as to what is going on and will know not what to do. The Holy Spirit is recruiting masses of selected people and training them in the spiritual weapons of warfare. We are battling against the dark powers, but we are of the light and getting brighter, training every day for spiritual warfare. We are fighting not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness in high places. We can defeat our enemy if we will join together as one body under one Head, Jesus Christ, and if we are led by one Spirit, the Holy Spirit. For anything with more than one head is unacceptable and is not of the Spirit our Father.

Discerning False Spirits

In May of 1995 I had the privilege of going to Hawaii and ministering for three weeks. During my stay, I was asked to be interviewed on two television programs. The last twenty minutes of the first program the station opened up the phone lines for viewers to call in for personal prophecy. Within a twenty minute span, the station had received 78 phone calls; the station manager was shocked over this great response.

The next day the manager had me back and wanted to give more time for people to call. With eleven telephones manned in the station, we answered 256 phone calls in forty-two minutes. It was obvious the people in Hawaii were hungry for spiritual direction.

Being new to Hawaii, I did not know that the islands were also a Mecca for the psychics especially on the island of Maui. It wasn’t long before I was confronted by three psychics after an evening church service. The male psychic started the conversation by saying I had caused quite a stir; then he asked if I would say no more against the psychics. I told him that I could not be silent about what they were doing to the people. He responded that he was a Jew. He said he knew that the Bible says to know men by their fruit and he believed what they were doing was for the good of the people.

I told this man that being a Jew he should also know about the curses laid upon those who seek mediums and psychics and that the fruit he bore was not from the same tree from which I came. He responded that he had a refrigerator he used every day, although he didn’t know how it works. I said, “You may not know how it works, but if you were a repair man you would know everything about it. If you are going to practice in the spirit realm, you better know what spirit you are dealing with.” He and the other two psychics turned and left the church and I never heard from them again.

Just because you may know of things to come, does not necessarily mean that you have heard from God. If what you heard truly is from God and you do not give Him the credit, you will be no better than a psychic. The scriptures tell us to test the spirits and know that they are of God.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world”
I John 4:1

In the early church Apostle Paul and Prophet Silas had an encounter with a Psychic. The way they handled the problem should be our example for today.

It was a day like any other in which Apostle Paul and Prophet Silas were going to pray. On their way, they were met by a fortune teller who was possessed by the spirit of divination. She followed Paul and Silas crying out, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” Now that was not a bad thing to say about Paul and Silas, but they knew by what spirit she was speaking.

This went on for many days, finally Paul, who was greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” The spirit was cast out of her and she could no longer profit her masters by fortune telling. The spirit of the psychic had been removed.
Acts 16:16

Paul and Silas were not the only ministers of God in the early church who had encounters with Psychics. We find that Apostles Peter and Barnabas were summoned by Bar-Jesus, a sorcerer and a Jew, to give a word from God to the Proconsul. As Paul and Barnabas traveled to the Proconsul, they were met by a man named Elymas, who was also a Psychic who practiced sorcery. Elymas tried to stop Paul and Barnabas from witnessing and converting the Proconsul over to Christianity.

“Then Paul rose up full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently at Elymas and said, ‘O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.’ And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. Then the Proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord”.
Acts 13:6-12

There is also an encounter which Peter had that is not recorded in the Bible. However, we do know there is a historical account of this event:

In HIS Image, by Kent Simpson from Kent Simpson on Vimeo.

Peter was in Rome to refute the apparent miracles of a false messiah, Simon Magus. As a massive crowd awaited the outcome, Simon, who had won the initial skirmishes, was now pushed to the brink and boasted he would prove his divinity by flying “up unto God.” Leaping from a wooden tower, the Magus [magician], aided either by magic, spells or by demons, sailed across the sky, seemingly victorious. The crowd looked to Peter for his reaction.

The Apostle implored the Lord Jesus to have Simon “fall from the height and be disabled; and let him not die but…break his leg in three places.” The impostor plummeted to the ground. He was carried off, his leg broken in three places, at last humiliated. This tale, from the apocryphal Acts of Peter, is one of many Simon Magus stories (Ref- “After Jesus”, Readers Digest).

We still have the power today to call upon the name of Jesus when His glory is being tested by the false prophets, psychics of today. “Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever”
Hebrews 13:8

Dear Kent,

Thanks for this message today. This is something that I have pondered about for many years. Unfortunately the church is much as you say but I have been praying for a restoration of these things in the church since God has not changed anything since He revealed it to Paul for the early church. Thanks again for reminding us that God is the same yesterday, today and forever, I got your audio word recently and it really spoke to my heart. A young woman prophesied the same thing that you spoke to me as I was entering to go to a meeting one night at church. It really made me take a step back and perk up my ears about the things you said to me. Just a little feedback and thanks for your ministry.

Yours in Christ,
Denny F.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for delivering the prophetic message from God

I just want to confirm – and may be encourage you – on/about its content; it is very precise and indeed very recognizable for me; describing my past and present.

My background is having been a somewhat controversial/unconventional pastor and evangelist in the Pentecostal movement, emphasizing to reach out to the “common man”, the unsaved ones- through radio, TV, newspapers, and my sermons have been attended by many, and the congregations has increased/grown. Though: There have been a lot of people working against me/my “methods”, and I have not been strong enough to stand for long at a time. May be “the traditionalists”/the “religious spirits” have been motivated, in fact, by enviousness; a kind of jealousy. These kind of “get rid of- reflexes/responses/reactions” has also been an active factor in other areas in my life, as I have been in an active position in the struggle against poverty and drug abuse, mostly as a writer in the national newspapers and as a lobbyist towards the parliament and government, having found open doors and received break-troughs. But has been stopped by people I worked with. They think I “take to big space;” am to dominant and charismatic. This has also been the case in my political struggle, where I indeed has altered some systems and politics – both on local level, and to some extent on national level.

But God has opened doors for the ones that I sensed that I was to lift up, to parliament, to TV programs and newspaper journalists. Doors that were considered to be impossible, was opened, and break- thoughts took place. Especially regarding an African family that I lifted up to all the nations (4 cd’s concert tours, TV, etc.)

You know The Lord well, and He speaks/reveals to you.

Regards and blessings
Hugo in Norway

Good Morning Prophet Simpson,

I just want you to know that I received my prophecy along with my children’s. I have been receiving prophesies, however, this is with a difference. I cannot explain it, but that is how I feel. I listen to it every day. Is it possible to order for another personal to prophesy if I so desire? I want to know before I order for another one again for myself. I have been telling everyone I know about your ministry, including my colleges. Gee God working through you like this is incredible and amazing. There is no ministry like this on earth that I know of. OMG that is true Prophet. Think about it. Do you realize that? I hope that when I become a millionaire/billionaire, I will find you and support you. Yes indeed I will. I am in the process. It is only Jesus that will make it happen for me. This is a true promise sealed with the power of the cross. Thank you so much.

“Hey Weirdo, What Makes You a Prophet?”

I do not know anyone who ever really wanted to be called a prophet or planned on walking in the office of a prophet. When God calls you to be one of His prophets you immediately think that He has the wrong number. Especially if you have no idea what a prophet of today is supposed to look like. Most people seem to think of the word “false” when you say prophet, for false prophets are well known in today’s society. Some men have made the two words interconnected by their actions, men like David Koresh 1959-1993 or Jim Jones 1931-1978. Who in their right mind would want to be immediately grouped with these boys? To be called a prophet is to place yourself in one of the lowest categories of mankind, so why would you want to be known as a prophet?

Do not think honor is going to be given to you for calling yourself a prophet. Many have tried to seek honor from others prior to you and have left a shadow of doubt and disbelief behind them. If you are truly called by God to walk through life with this socially disgraceful brand you will experience very little honor. However, if you are faithful to the call and keep pointing to the only Prophet who is truly worthy of the title your reward in heaven will be spectacular forever.

Jesus said:
“A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house”
Mark 6:4

It was March 14, 1979 I remember like it was yesterday; I was standing in my bedroom, looking out the window across the yard and into the trees across the road thinking about the sermon titled “What Does God Want You to Do for Him?” I had heard just hours before. With my hands out in front of me, my eyes closed, I lifted up my hands to God and said, “What do you want me to do for You, oh Lord?” I had been experiencing a lot of conviction about being a banker and the practice of usury by charging interest on borrowed money that violates scripture. Even though my pastor told me that it’s okay now because that was Old Testament law and it did not apply for today, I still felt my heart was not lined up right with God because of my job.

“If he has exacted usury Or taken increase-

Shall he then live? He shall not live! If he has done any of these abominations, He shall surely die; His blood shall be upon him”
Ezekiel 18:13

At the time my oldest daughter was only a year old, we lived in the country in a modest home I had built for my little family. I was in my seventh year of banking, and on the weekends and holidays I worked on a ranch for my father-in-law who was also my best friend. My life was great in a lot of ways, but something was missing. I was really involved in our little country church and wanted more of God but didn’t know how to get closer to Him. It is for this reason that I was crying out to Him asking what He wanted me to do for Him. While I was in the middle of asking Him, He spoke: “Read Ezekiel 33”. I opened my Bible to the scripture and began to read. The more I read the heavier the burden felt upon me. When I read verse 33 it was as if my hair stood straight up all over my body. Bewildered, I re-read the verse about 3 or 4 times for I was totally perplexed, not understanding what in the world was this all about and what was I to do?

“Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. And when this comes to pass-surely it will come-then they will know that a prophet has been among them” (Ezekiel 33:32-33).

Why Would you Want to be Called a Prophet?

All I could see in my mind’s eye was me with a long beard, honey dripping down it, wearing some kind of camel skin garment and locust legs hanging out of my mouth. Snapping out of these thoughts, I began to focus on a more modern version of what I might look like and that picture did not give me any comfort either. I saw myself standing over an old wooden pulpit wearing an old moth-eaten sport coat speaking dry words. None of the above appealed to me and I stayed on my course as a banker. I asked myself why would you want to be called a prophet anyway?

God is so gracious; even when we turn our backs on Him and go our own way He still continues to bless us along our rebellious path. The fact is He graced me with an anointing for making money for the bank and by the time I was 32 years old I was offered the position as the bank’s president and CEO of the bank’s holding company, which owned a total of four banks and an insurance company. It was practically unheard of for someone my age with no family connections to be placed in such an honorable position in the community. At least once a month my name and picture were in the newspaper, and couple of times I was in the local television news announcing the success of another new business development or community project. Life was good. I was blessed with an expensive executive car furnished by the bank, a new home on acreage with a swimming pool, in partnership with lawyers and mega-millionaires, part owner in a twin engine Beechcraft airplane, hunting and ski lodge, and the list goes on.

Then one Sunday the preacher made a plea with the congregation. The church was in a financial bind and he was asking for help. As I was driving home from church God asked me, “Will you give My church $75,000?” Within myself I said, “Lord you know I don’t have it but if you will show me the way I will sell whatever I have or do whatever you ask and I will give the amount you’ve asked.”

I had been working to put a shopping center on some land that was across the road from the bank but the elderly lady who owned the property had already turned me down, saying the property had been in the family for many years and she wasn’t going to sell it. Well, God put it on my heart to go to her home and ask her again. I really did not want to, for she was very emphatic about not selling the property. However, I had to obey. As soon as I knocked on her door she invited me in and said she was waiting on me to come back. Then the lady proceeded to tell me that she didn’t know why but she wanted me to have the property, that I did not have to pay her the $100,000 up front but offered that I pay $6,000 and make an agreement that once I had the shopping center approved I would pay her the balance.

Three weeks after the contract was signed the State Highway Department made an announcement that they were going to expand the lanes that fronted the property on both sides making it the major intersection in the city. Well, if you know anything about traffic counts and land appraisals the value of the property I had just put under contract went from $100,000 to $300,000 in just three weeks. Needless to say God had blessed me with more than enough to give His church $75,000.

About this time in my life I had a lot of things going my way; however, I was young and thinking more of myself than I should have. As time went by I got busy with all kinds of investments as the economy was taking a turn for the worse and everything was coming apart at the seams. My health also began to suffer. In August of 1986 I had to have back surgery. Just four months later I was back in the hospital with double pneumonia and the doctors thought I might have cancer in my kidneys. As they prepared to get x-rays of my kidneys, they injected a dye into my bloodstream that caused me to have such a severe allergic reaction that I almost died. As I lay awake the doctors and nurses worked feverishly, doing their best to keep me alive. While all this is happening God told me, “You are not going to die,” so I was at peace even though the outcome looked dismal.

How Dare you Call Yourself a Prophet!

At this point you might be asking what happened. Everything was going so great and then everything started falling apart; why was God allowing all this to happen? You remember the $75,000 God asked me to give to His church, well I got so busy with all the things of the world I had forgotten my commitment to Him. It must have all started going downhill as soon as my promise to Him slipped from my mind. I knew the anointing for creating wealth had been stripped from me and that He was sending me back into my first calling found in Ezekiel 33. This is what He said to me:

“If you do not change your ways and give glory to My name, then I will send terrible punishment upon you, and instead of giving you blessings as I would like to I will turn on you with curses. Indeed I have already because you haven’t taken seriously the things that are most important to me.” (ref. Malachi 2:1,2)

This was in March 1987, eight years to the month when He had previously called me to be one of His prophets. I know your theology may not agree with what He said to me, but one thing I have learned is my experiences with Him will always speak louder than man’s theology. Like I have said many times before, I have learned more about God hearing His word for myself and others than all the preaching and teaching I could receive in a lifetime.

A Light to My Path, His Word is a Lamp unto Your Feet from Kent Simpson on Vimeo.

After I got out of the hospital I resigned from the bank, purchased a motor home with the idea that I could outrun the calling. You see I still did not want to be a prophet and I thought I could just get away and maybe everything would change. I was living the life of Job, and I was about experience being swallowed up into the belly of a whale of trouble. Everywhere I went, every friend I called on had turned from me as if to throw me out of the boat. It was just a matter of time and I would be counting the ribs inside that big fish.

Being called of God and not surrendering to His call is not a very smart thing, and I know you would not have taken the path I chose. If I knew then what I know now I too would not have been so foolish. …..to be continued

Brother Kent Simpson,

Thank you so much for the article on prophetic words I just read on Elijah’s List.

It really helped me to understand what to do with prophetic words I have just recently received unexpectedly. I have been mulling them over in my mind and wondering how they would come to pass. Your writing gave me hope and reminded me to wait patiently for the Lord.

God Bless you.

Dear Kent,

This was a great word of” Interview” for explaining the Prophetic with Clarity. I also would like to ask a few questions on the article “Becoming an Internet Minister” from July 26/13. I’ve been a disciple of the Holy Spirit for 30 years coming Sept/11/13. I would actually like to come too Texas sometime to receive Ministry & your evaluation of what the Lord would say too me through you.

I have very much enjoyed your Ministry ever since I saw you on Elijah list last November. I am 60 years YOUNG prophet and believe that the Lord would help me in the direction clarity for the months ahead.

Love in Christ

Prophets and the Gift of Prophecy

Not everyone who prophesies is automatically walking in the office of a prophet because he or she operates in the gift of prophecy.

Confusion in the Prophetic Camp

There seems to be confusion regarding a few areas of the prophetic these days, and we know that God is not the author of confusion. I do not believe that there would be many Christians who would disagree with me when I say that every word written in the Holy Scriptures is true, for it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we must understand from where this confusion is coming. There is only one author of the Scriptures; the Holy Spirit is the only true teacher, and He is the only one who can give us the truth regarding His Word. The First Epistle of John reveals this truth:

“But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him”
1 John 2:27

The problem is not the Holy Scriptures or God. The individual interpretation of the Holy Scriptures is where the problem seems to always begin. Using the words written in the Holy Bible to manipulate the people of God is wrong and carries a strict judgment, as stated in James:

“My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment”
James 3:1

Now that we have laid a foundation for whom the author and teacher of the Holy Bible is and have pointed out the cost of misappropriating God’s word, let us go forward into this teaching on God’s prophets and the gift of prophecy.

Prophets and Prophecy for Today

First of all, I do not think you would be reading this article unless you believed that God is still appointing prophets to His Church. By reading First Corinthians 12:28 you will find the verse clearly establishes this fact, and I do not believe you can find an equal verse that says God has removed His prophets from His Church. Therefore, let us take a look at the difference between the Prophets of the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Most people say there is a difference; I on the other hand disagree. When discussing this topic with others I find a quick referral to the verse that gives us the definition of what prophesy is as we read from First Corinthians 14:3:

“But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.”
1 Corinthians 14:3

I believe we can all agree that Apostle Paul prophesied in Acts 13 when, “Filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Elymas) and said, ‘O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? 11 And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.'”

This word Apostle Paul prophesied was not edifying, exhorting or comforting. He spoke of blindness being put upon another, so what gives? In First Corinthians 14, Apostle Paul is giving instruction about the gift of prophecy to those who are NOT walking in one of the ascension gift ministries found in Ephesians 4:11:

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”.
Ephesians 4:11

We see in the book of Revelation that there will come a time when prophets will prophesy plagues upon nations, probably in our lifetime. During the war between the two realms, this world and the spiritual, we find miracles exploding in the open streets. Now this sounds more like Old Testament prophets, but in fact it is New Testament writings.

“And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth…..if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire”
Revelation 11:3-6

My point is this; prophets of the New Testament are the same as the Old. Our problem is that we have restrained the miracles of the New Testament prophets from coming forth. When we study more about the prophets of the Old we find they raised the dead, outran horses, called fire down from heaven, found lost animals, multiplied food sources, had bionic ears to spy on the enemy, and even after death their bones could raise the dead. However, when a prophet of God makes a prophetic proclamation that God has released it is possible for entire nations to rise or fall based upon His spoken word.

We serve a God who is not double-minded and does not have to comply with our demands. To think that if He sent someone to give me a word of prophecy and if I did not like the word I could just not believe it and it would go away makes prophecy a bit useless. I cannot count the number of times someone has told me their word did not bear witness with their spirit, therefore, they just tossed it aside and forgot about it only to call me a couple of years later to let me know they were doing exactly what the word they received proclaimed and to ask if they could get a copy of the original word. I believe if a word from God is given a copy of it should be made and kept safe to allow time to test the word. Over the years I have held on to hundreds of copies of prophesies I have sent out. Any word of prophecy is worth recording and keeping, even if you do not understand it.

Is it Prophecy or a Word of Wisdom?

One thing I have noticed that we have done with the gift of prophecy is we group a short list of other spiritual gifts from First Corinthians 12 (word of knowledge, word of wisdom, prophecy and gift of faith) into the prophetic word and call it all ‘prophecy’ then try to explain it as one function. This too has brought confusion into the body of Christ. For example, to say that a word of prophecy is conditional upon us believing the word or praying over the word we received just doesn’t add up. Do we really think that God needs our help in making His Word come to pass or is it just another way to protect the person giving the prophecy? The only time I have heard a word having conditions within the structure and meaning I found it not to be prophecy at all, but rather a word of wisdom, which does have a choice or conditions within its contents. Usually, the word will go something like this: “if you put your house up for sale it will sell; however, you will not be able to finance another and your rent will be more than what you are paying now.”

The recipient now has a decision to make but the outcome should give them the answer to the question they were seeking which was; “Should I sell my house because I do not think I can keep making the payments?” I have tried my best to never to tell someone what to do when I give a prophetic word. For a true prophet will not tell you what to do, he will only tell you what to expect.

I see a lot of the same ministry safeguards being adopted into the prophetic movement as what the faith movement implemented in the later years of its heyday. What I mean is that if enough conditions are required before a personal prophecy can come to pass then when the word doesn’t come to pass we can just say they did not pray right or they did not believe hard enough or they sinned and lost the promise within the prophecy. Well, I must ask these questions: Is God all-knowing? Don’t you think that He knows well in advance what you are going to do before He uses someone to speak a prophetic word into your life? What kind of father would tell you of the great and wonderful things he is going to do for you only to later take it all back?

Ministering in Spiritual Gifts

Now let me back up here and give a defense for those who are on the frontlines giving prophetic words. I have said this a thousand times for it is true; it is not enough to hear the voice of God. You must know what He means. If we struggle with interpreting the written word of God how much more difficult is His spoken word? It is much more challenging to know the ways and thoughts of God when He is speaking to you Spirit to spirit than having the words to read. People ministering in the gifts are expected to interpret it with accuracy, delivering a clear word exactly as the Holy Spirit is revealing it to you. This is not an easy task. The problem isn’t that the person giving the word did not hear God but rather they lacked the ability to understand and properly interpret what He meant. This takes years of experience learning from your mistakes. Too many are quick to judge the person rather than the word; we could use a lot more grace in this area. Time is the true test for every prophecy; to assume you know if the word is correct before then is to despise the prophecy.

“Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good”
1 Thessalonians 5:19-21

One of the major reasons people who are ministering in the gift of prophecy feel they have failed when giving someone a prophetic word is because they are afraid they will mess up someone’s life. You cannot help but respect a person who is that concerned. However, allow me to speak to you if you are one of these types of prophetic people. You must trust the Holy Spirit with everything within you that He will not misguide you. You cannot mess up if you put your mind in neutral and speak or write only what He puts into your thoughts and spirit. It all starts with just one word; once you speak or write that one word everything else will flow.

War over the Prophetic Word

Another quick word of advice, when you give a prophetic word you must fight for that person’s prophetic word, for the devil will try to get you to come under doubt and agree with him that the word you gave was not from God. Yes, I said that correctly! It is the person who delivers the word that must have the faith in order for that word to come to pass. Most people tell the person receiving the word they must have the faith to believe, not so. Let us look at the instructions found in Romans 12:6 for those who minister in prophecy: “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith.” So how does faith come?

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”
Romans 10:17

Here we learn that the prophetic minister is the one held accountable to believe for a word from God to come to pass not the person receiving the prophetic word.

When Will My Word Come to Pass

In closing, the best way to see your word come to pass as fast as possible is to take your word and put it on the shelf and wait for a month or more and then go back and re-read it. If you received your prophetic word on a voice-recording device try transcribing it into text format and you will see a difference in the meaning, for it will speak to you in a different way. Your word is going to come to pass when God has planned for it, so just stay out of His way. I have discovered that about 80% of the prophetic words I have given over the past 24 years come to pass in about 2 years. This too might interest you; most of those people forgot what was on their prophecy until after what was spoken had come to pass. When they went back and listened to their prophetic word they were shocked. You can work all you want, trying to figure out how God is going to make your word come to pass. However, in the end you will see that He will fulfill His word in a way you never thought possible. For He is a God of the impossible!

I had to come here and post this!!!!

Imagine my amazement and excitement when I found a prophetic word on CD from 2003 and played it as I was driving down the road just today. And just last night received a word and exactly the same scripture was on it and telling me about the angels that would be ministering for me. My faith in God is built up like never before as I have been going through the most terrible point in my life where I feel as if I have been punched in the stomach and had the breath knocked out of me literally with so much loss. MAMA IS GROWING!

Two years ago my wife Debbie was healed of rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia in just THREE days after being prayed for at River of Life Church in Rusk, Texas that was two years ago. She was so bad off before her healing that she could not pick up a frying pan or unscrew the top of a water bottle.

Now, she is totally healed and stronger than she has been in years with no pain. My Debbie was truly blessed but not satisfied she wanted to also be healed of the double scoliosis that plagued her since she was a child. Most people would have been satisfied but she wasn’t, she wanted all of what Jesus had for her. Three weeks ago she had a dream that she was healed of her double scoliosis and it was Andy Frasure who had prayed for her and it was going to happen in two weeks on a Sunday.

This past Sunday the 28th of July we were at Pastor Scott Schiele’s place of worship, Emmanuel Church in Vinita, Oklahoma where one of our own ministers, Andy Frasure of PMT/FPP was ministering with Elizabeth Reisinger and her ministry team from Bethel Church, Redding, California. We went up to record a video of Andy’s sermon with our youngest daughter Savannah and our two grandchildren Keaton and Julia.

During the evening service Elizabeth Reisinger asked everyone who had not ever seen a miracle to come to the Alter and stand. Then she asked everyone in the congregation to come forward who had pain in their body. Debbie and I went to the front along with a number of other people. Elizabeth asked everyone with pain to lay on the floor and the people who came to see a miracle to stand over everyone on the floor and stretch out their arms casting a shadow over the hurting people. Just like Apostle Peter when he walked along the road people would lay the sick along the road. As Peter’s shadow would pass over them they would be healed.

Well, Debbie and I were not laying down for the floor for it was covered so we sat on the lowest step on the stage. As the people prayed I began to slowly run my hand up and down Debbie’s spine then suddenly something strange started happening. It felt like Jesus put His hand inside of mine and I could feel my fingers pushing the curves out of her spine. Then I ran my hand back down her spine and found the second curve my fingers started moving the spine until it was strait.

After I testified for Debbie, she does like speaking to large crowds, about the dream and what had just happened. I asked Debbie if she could feel me moving her spine. With tears in her eyes she shook her head yes.

Today we made our second visit to our Doctor who has confirmed this is a miracle. We have been keeping an account of her growth each time we come back from the Doctor’s office. In three days she has gone from 5’2″ to 5’3.25″. Will keep you up to date to how tall the healing takes her.
